Tiny Toons Season 1 Volume 2 on DVD

April 21st saw the release of Tiny Toon Adventures: Season 1 Volume 2 to DVD from Warner Home Video.The new set features the next 30 episodes from Season One that carries over from the last 35 episodes released in Volume 1 from August of 2008.

There are lots of great cartoons on this set, but with the good come some of the bad. It seems that the better cartoons have the traditional 6-minute time frame while the other dragged-out episodes run for the full 20-minutes. The compilation episodes are fun to watch seeing how they parody many music stars and television shows ("Tiny Toon Music Television", "K-ACME TV")."Animaniacs!"
The classic Looney Tunes characters have many cameo appearances through-out the rest of season one, acting as professors of comedy and having slightly bigger roles in certain cartoons ("Duck Dodgers Jr.", "Who Bopped Bugs Bunny?", "Return of Pluck Twacy").

Warner Home Video has finally released the 1990 animated series produced by Steven Spielberg, "Tiny Toon Adventures"!Tiny Toons was basically a Warner Bros celebration of their Looney Tunes heritage. 1990 marked Bugs Bunny's 50 birthday so Warner Bros tried to create new cartoons based on the classics that were created at Termite Terrace during the Golden Age.The series follows the adventures of various Tiny Toons while they attend ACME Looniversity in order to graduate as official cartoon characters. The original Looney Tunes cast helps out the youngsters as the staff of the school.
Buster Bunny gets advice from Bugs Bunny.Daffy Duck teaches Plucky Duck to steal the spotlight.Furrball is instructed to catch mice by Sylvester.Dizzy Devil tries to eat bunnies with help from the Tazmanian Devil.Elmer Fudd teaches Elmyra to hug and love forest creatures insted of hunting them.Calamity Coyote recieves falling advice from Wile E. Coyote.Babs Bunny searches out "canine versions" of Honey & Bosko.The series had many different animation houses working on episodes so the art/animation style varies from time-to-time. The characters often fall off-model but it gives the series an interesting twist in visuals.It's a fun ride to revisit these cartoons and they are a great example of things to come during the 90's which some people have dubbed the Silver Age of Animation.This 4 disc set features the first half of the first season that contains 35 episodes. 17 episodes run for a complete 22 minute story while the remaining 18 are made up of 3 short cartoons.There is an interesting special feature called "From Looney Tunes to Tiny Toons - A Wacky Evolution!" that explains the origin of the series by going back to the classics.Can't wait for Season 1: Volume 2 to be released!

Lightning Rodriguez's Only Appearance?

I read this article about early '90s Warner Bros Television Animation series and was surprised that the conceptual Tiny Toons version of Speedy Gonzales was turned down because the series already had a speedy character in Little Beeper.

Lightning Rodriguez was going to be the fast mouse's name and I think I may have spotted his only appearance in an early episode of Tiny Toons.
Thanks to the awesome, brand new DVD set "Tiny Toon Adventures: Season 1 Volume 1" I was able to watch a quick scene frame-by-frame. In the scene, a bunch of Tiny Toon models fly by the screen and I noticed a little mouse character who wasn't Lil' Sneezer.Note the Chuck Jones-esque sneakers this mouse is wearing, Calamity Coyote & Little Beeper wear a pair just like them. I wish we would've seen an actually cartoon starring Lightning. Maybe an animatic will pop up on future DVD sets? Who knows?
