What a Cartoon Show - Snoot's New Squat

One of the more interesting ideas I've seen from this series. Kind of an updated version of Robert Clampett's "An Itch in Time".

CN Announces New 2010 Shows

As of April 21st, Cartoon Network announced it's new 2010 lineup featuring an array of new shows.
http://www.toonzone.net/news/articles/33313/toonzone-at-the-cartoon-network-2010-upfront-updated-1145-am
12 shows have been presented and in my personal opinion, these are the ones I'm most curious to check out.Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated: yet another series featuring those meddling teenagers and their goofy dog. Seems to be a throw-back to their roots with modern cartoony-cartoonists Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone acting as supervising producers.Young Justice: Teen superheroes have to start somewhere. Various young heroes of the DC variety prove they have what it takes to join the ranks of the Justice League.MAD: The popular spoof magazine finally gets animated in several styles in order to poke fun at almost everything that makes up pop culture.Sym-Bionic Titan: Genndy Tartakovsky's return to animation features alien teenagers and their giant robots. Should be awesome.
And the most-anticipated series I've been looking forward too:The Looney Tunes Show: Those wacky Warner Bros characters are now living the suburban lifestyle in half-hour adventures made up with musical segments(?) and CG Roadrunner shorts. In the long run, this seems like a terrible idea for classic cartoon stars but at least it's a step up from Baby Looney Tunes and Loonatics. Supervising producers Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone have handled the Tunes well-enough before, so this show could live up to it's roots. For today's standards that is.

Pink Panther & Pals Premiere

There was a post on this blog speaking of a new Pink Panther animated series back in 2008 and now Cartoon Network has premiered the first episode as of March the 7th.
http://pinkpanther.mgm.com/
Thanks to YouTube, you can watch the first episode here. Better make it quick before it gets yanked. I really like the fact that the show's creators rethought their original "baby-versions" of the Pink Panther gang, but instead, redesigned the characters with a "modern" take. I do not care much for Pink's design but The Ant and The Aardvark make up for it. I don't know why, but their first cartoon really reminded me of watching Disney's Shnookums & Meat for the first time. Can't wait to see more of these shorts, they might just get better over time.

I hope Cartoon Network continues this classic cartoon resurgence with "Looney Tunes: Laff Riot" soon. They may be on their way to bringing funny cartoons to television again...

George & Junior's Christmas Spectacular

Here's a CN What a Cartoon Show short from 1995 starring Tex Avery's bear duo: George & Junior as they help Santa out by delivering a present that's been left behind.

There was a short series of George & Junior shorts produced for Hanna-Barbera by Patrick A. Ventura who used a really wild, cartoony style. The animation is very limited, but the gags and drawings make good use of it.

Johnny Bravo Struts onto DVD

Voted a fan-favorite by Cartoon Network viewers way back in 1995 during the run of a series of one-shot cartoon shorts collected as World Premiere Toons/ What A Cartoon!, Van Partible's Johnny Bravo will finally be available on DVD in 2010!
http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Johnny-Bravo-Season-1/13061
This 2-disc: first season set is the first available through Warner Home Video's "Cartoon Network Hall of Fame" line up.
The most popular cartoons of these early CN compilations, were chosen for their own series. Could we finally see Genndy Tartakovsky's "Dexter's Laboratory" and David Feiss' "Cow and Chicken" on later DVD sets? Hopefully!
In the meantime, here's the opening theme to Johnny Bravo, that self-proclaimed "heart-breaker" and "one-man army".

Tartakovsky's Sym-Bionic Titan

The creator of such animated hits Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack, will be returning this year with a new series called Sym-Bionic Titan.
http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2009/03/chung-tartakovk.html
Genndy Tartakovsky's new sci-fi series will evolve around three aliens from a war-torn planet who have crashed to Earth only to be swept up into high school while defending the planet. This marks Genndy's return to the small screen since 2003's Clone Wars mini-series which proved so popular it layed the way for the current CG incarnation.
If his past shows are any indication, Sym-Bionic Titan should be full of awesome eye candy.

On The Rocks On YouTube

The rarely-seen animated film special "The Flintstones on The Rocks" is currently available for viewing on YouTube thanks to CN90s.
The special aired in 2001 on "Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater" and is based on the original 1960's series.
The character designs and production art pay respect to their roots as well as the script.
The basic storyline has Fred and Wilma's marriage falling apart so The Rubbles take them on vacation to try and fix things. A jewel thief gets his bag mixed up with Wilma's and Fred uses the diamond to win his wife back, but the thief has other plans.

New "Pink Panther" Series in 2009

It seems that MGM and Cartoon Network has teamed up to produced a brand new 26-episode half-hour television series called "Pink Panther and Pals" to premiere in 2009.
http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=26543
According to this 2006 image, this new series was originally designed with "baby" characters in mind, but now the series will feature "teenage" versions of the Pink Panther clan.Of course this isn't the first time the Pink Panther has been revived with an animated series.
In 1984, Pink was made a father with 2 sons, Pinky & Panky, in "Pink Panther & Sons".The Panther was finally given a voice thanks to actor Matt Frewer in the 1993 series "The Pink Panther".Will this new series give new life to the Pink Panther characters? Only time will tell...

Powerpuff Girls: Complete Anniversary Collector's Set

According to TVshowsonDVD.com, Warner Home Video is going to be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Craig McCracken's 78 episode series with a 6-disc set to be released this January!
http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Powerpuff-Girls-Anniversary-Collector-Set/10552
No official word from Warners themselves yet, but I'll keep you posted!

Jetsons by Wray & DeStefano

Here's a cool looking comic I found in a 1997 issue of DC/Cartoon Network's "The Flintstones and The Jetsons".
"Robo-George" features artwork by Bill Wray and Stephen DeStefano with excellent color by Bernie Mireault.
Unfortunately I never collected anymore of these DC/Cartoon Network titles. I wonder if any other stories featured great artwork like this one?

Cartoon Network Shorties

In the earlier days of Cartoon Network, when they actually played classic cartoons, there were mini cartoons, called Shorties, that would play during commercial breaks.
These Shorties would put the classic Hanna-Barbera characters into modern situations using various animation techniques.

And an Adult Swim promo that just cracks me up...
