Joe Harris To Sink His Teeth Into VAMPIRELLA & THE SCARLET LEGION

Source: Dynamite Entertainment

Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion #1 is an ALL-NEW mini-series coming out in May written by Joe Harris! With the main Vampirella series seeing sell-out after sell-out with so many retailers, this new mini-series will serve to compliment this HOT ongoing series. For fans new and old, this series will re-introduce The Scarlet Legion to Vampirella's mythology!

Keeping in mind that #1 main covers sold out from Dynamite, and Vampirella #2 close to a near sell out, there is no question that Dynamite's Vampirella title is a bonafide hit! Dynamite also recently announced that Vampirella Archives, Vol. 1 was #1 on Hardcover Graphic Books New York Times Bestseller List for the week of January 23rd! Dynamite plans on continuing Vampirella's amazing success with Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion!

In May's Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion #1, The Crimson Chronicles, that foul bible of blood, foretells the coming of Chaos, the Destroyer and his servants on earth. Since her earliest days, Vampirella has stood between that vicious cult and their Mad God's plans. But when an ancient prophecy of doom is uncovered and a new push to resurrect the foulest demons from the pit is revealed, it's clear Vampirella won't be able to take them on alone. Enter THE SCARLET LEGION, assembled to keep the dark things at bay and protect this world from the evils which lie beyond. The only question is, will they see Vampirella as friend... or foe?

"I'm stoked to be working on a Vampirella story, one of the baddest, sexiest and most iconic characters and properties in horror comics," says writer Joe Harris. "We're looking to do something big and sprawling with a bit of a globe-spanning sweep to it. A big screen adventure interwoven with some some frightening and truly horrific moments that, I hope, will help keep the dark scary. Vampirella & The Scarlet Legion expands our vampire heroine's inner circle a bit, but not always with friends. Sometimes rivals, or even enemies, make for more interesting dynamics. We're doing horror, after all. You want to keep things tense, and less than rosy. I'm a big fan of what Dynamite has been able to do in this market and I'm both proud and humbled to be on board. They've taken some great properties and really carved out a space for themselves. Nick Barrucci is a true patron of this industry and it's no wonder Dynamite have gotten a lot of well-deserved attention lately."

"I've always followed Joe Harris' writing history, admiring his work inside and outside of the comics market," says Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "After making his return to comics at Oni, we've kept in touch for the last few years trying to find the right project. Vampirella is very important to Dynamite and we would not entrust a series, even a mini-series, to anyone that could not execute. Having seen the overview and Joe's script to date, we definitely made the right call!"

"There are some great things happening in the Vampirella ongoing and now that we've brought Joe [Harris] in, we can begin to add a little flesh to the skeleton," says Dynamite Editor Joe Rybandt. "Readers of the ongoing know that the mystery is right there upfront in terms of who or what Vampirella is and with Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion, we take a step back to time shortly before our main series and explore the roots of the world Vampirella is finding herself in. We'll meet some old friends and a slew of new enemies along the way, Guaranteed."

New Behind The Scenes Photos From DRACULA'S ORGY OF THE DAMNED

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: James Baack

My kindred spirit from the frozen tundra of Chicago James Baack just sent me a whole bunch of new behind the scenes photos from his latest film "Dracula's Orgy of the Damned. In fact, I think he sent them to me via his cell phone while he was stranded in his snow covered car somewhere on the vast motorways of the windy city.

Good luck to you James ...... hopefully you'll be found before spring.

Anyway, enough of my silliness, "Orgy of the Damned" is Baack's tribute to the great Hammer horrors of the 60s and 70s. Though with James nothing is quite as it seems, as these photos will attest. From the looks of things one can only gather that this film will be a cross between "Nosferatu", "Blade", "Resident Evil" .... um... "Rambo" and of course Hammer.

Then again, I could be way off base with that.

The cast, which includes Claire “Fluff” Llewellyn, Cassandra and Colleen Carajval, Shawn C. Phillips and illusionist Ron Fitzgerald as Dracula, and crew have been braving what has turned out to be one of the harshest winters ever to make "Orgy of the Damned" a reality. Filming in between blizzards since the beginning of the year.

Here are the pics:

Dynamite Has Big Plans For Vampirella In April

Source: Dynamite Entertainment

With Vampirella #1 main covers sold out from Dynamite, and Vampirella #2 close to a near sell out, there is no question that Dynamite's Vampirella title is a bonafide hit! In April, we have not one but three Vampirella products; Vampirella #6, Vampirella Aurora Model Kit & a limited Vampirella Crimson Chronicles Maximum TPB!

Vampirella #6 is written by Eric Trautmann (Action Comics co-written with Greg Rucka), illustrated by Wagner Reis and Fabiano Neves and will arrive at comic shops next April 2011with amazing covers by Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic, Paul Renaud, Ale Garza, and Fabiano Neves! In issue #6, an ancient, unknowable evil claws its way into our world. Vampirella must stand alone...or all that lives will suffer and die. With Dracula's minions pursuing their own agendas, and legions of tentacular horrors from beyond reality scrabbling for a foothold on the material plane, only one thing is certain: there will be blood.

"Dynamite's first Vampirella arc concludes here, amid tentacular horrors, arterial spray and as much hallucinatory weirdness as I can pack into 22 pages," says writer Eric Trautmann. "It's been a hell of a fun ride for me, and as pleased as I am to reach the climax of this particular chapter in Vampirella's life, I'm equally excited that we're moving on into even stranger territory."

"We're extremely proud to have such immediate success with Dynamite's Vampirella relaunch, says Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "Everyone from Eric Trautmann to artists Wagner Reiss and Fabiano Neves, and cover artists J. Scott Campbell, Paul Renaud, Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic, Joe Madureira, Ale Garza, Joe Jusko, Alex Ross have brought such great attention to our launch by doing such amazing work. And working with Moebious to bring Vampirella's Aurora Kit model, as well as the limited quantites of Vampirella Crimson Chronicles are just icing on top. We look forward to Vampirella's continued success!"

The Vampirella Aurora Model Kit is a snap-fit model kit of the sexy seductress of all vampires! Moebius completes the line of 70's Aurora Monsters with this re-issue of Vampirella. This 1:13 scale Vampirella Model Kit is a snap-fit kit that features easy assembly, movable parts, and ghoulishly girlie details! No glue is needed. The sexy seductress is a reproduction of the original Aurora model kit from back in the day, and she's simply tempting and irresistible even if she does want to drink your blood!

The Vampirella Crimson Chronicles Maximum TPB is a warehouse find, with only 300 copies of this collection available. A collection of Vampirella stories from the original Vampirella #1-37, including nearly every Vampirella story written by Archie Goodwin and drawn by Jose Gonzalez! This is the one indispensible volume for every Vampirella fan.

Vampirella debuted in 1969 in a black & white magazine titled simply VAMPIRELLA. With a stunning cover by legendary artist, Frank Frazetta, Vampirella #1 quickly made publishing history with its depiction of a vampire heroine, and its success prompted comics giants DC and Marvel to launch horror titles of their own. Vampirella appeared in this magazine format throughout the 1970's. Many of these classic stories were illustrated by the legendary artist Jose Gonzalez and have remained quite popular with comics fans to the present day.

After a brief publishing hiatus, Vampirella returned in 1992 and quickly regained her reigning status as the queen of all female comics characters! In continuous publication since her early 90s comeback, Vampirella has been written by top talents including Alan Moore, Mark Millar, Grant Morrison, James Robinson, Jeph Loeb, Warren Ellis, and illustrated by fan favorite artists such as Joe Quesada, J. Scott Campbell, Michael Turner, Jae Lee, Adam Hughes, Mark Texeira, Joe Jusko, Arthur Suydam, and many more! A Vampirella feature film premiered on Showtime Networks in 1996, and the character continues to appear on numerous items of licensed merchandise. Earlier this year, Dynamite Entertainment acquired the Vampirella property from Harris Publications.

Vampirella is now a part of Dynamite's thriving comic book line-up, which will propel Vampirella to new heights just as we did with Green Hornet, The Lone Ranger, Zorro, Red Sonja and more.

Lenora Crichlow Talks About The Third Season Of BEING HUMAN

Source: BBC

How do viewers meet Annie in the new series, as she was left in purgatory in the series two?

When we see her in episode one she is in a bad way – she is still in purgatory and frantic about what will happen to her. She is crying out for help and you get a sense of her desperation. It doesn't look good for her at the beginning of the series.

How does Annie feel about the move to Barry?

To say she is less than excited would probably be the right thing. I don't think Annie is great with change. She likes her routine, she likes familiar surroundings. The fact that they've moved puts her out a little bit and then she surveys Barry and is even more unenthused. But she gets used to it pretty quickly and it does become her home. She's a good homemaker, Annie, so she can cope.

Do you think she'll miss Bristol?

I think there is an element of that, but also a really nice sense of starting again and a fresh start – which I think they all want and need – and, for Annie, it's a chance to make new memories of a place and wipe the slate clean. There is a lot of stuff that wasn't so great about the place she was in – and Bristol itself – so the move is for the best.

How would you describe the new pad?

Big! Big and really fantastic – we were blown away by the set. It's stunning on and off camera. It felt like being in a big dolls' house and felt very homely for a set. It was much more solid then the last set and on a much bigger scale. The attention to detail is exquisite – I was so impressed.

Will Annie's rescue from purgatory show a different side to her this series?

Definitely. Annie's done a 360. When we meet her in series three, she is much more empowered and secure – and I think that's because the worst thing that could have happened to her has happened. She now has fearlessness about her and a real appreciation for everybody that is in her little life. We definitely see a different side to her this series – she has definitely grown.

How would you describe the new characters?

There are some fantastic new characters in the show. This series really starts to pad out the world that the three of them find themselves in. It becomes a lot more complex and you see the scale of what's going on. It's not just the three of them in a flat anymore; it starts to filter out into the real world. There are some brilliant cameos and brilliant regulars that take us through series three. You'll laugh, cry and drool!

The new characters mean the three of us really start to build up a community, as we realise we are not alone. It's what I'd call an alternative community, which they are introduced to and when they begin to explore and become part of it, it's really exciting. But the three of us are still very much a tight unit.

How has it been working with all the fantastic guest stars?

All the guest stars were pretty amazing. Lacey Turner was fantastic – she was great to work with and a lovely person. We had some great scenes together.

Have there been any memorable scenes this year, any scenes that have been particularly fun to shoot?

There's a scene where Russell has to give us this weird look and I don't know how he does it, but he managed to have everybody in hysterics. Even members of the crew had to step off set. We were just in absolute fits – professionalism went out the window completely!

When you get the scripts have there ever been moments when you think: "I never thought they would take Annie there"?

There are a lot of surprises for Annie in this series. The thing with Toby is you just trust him that much that you don't want to second guess him. I won't lie – everybody has a pop at what they think is going to happen – but he just manages to make everything make sense, it's all very organic.

And I'm always in absolute surprise by what's coming next and it keeps me on my toes. It draws me in. Even if you feel you saw it coming, Toby writes it in such a way that you'll have that "huh?" moment.

But one thing I will say is that you need to stick with series three till the end – the end is a blinder!

New Teaser Art And Casting News For DRACULA'S ORGY OF THE DAMNED

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: James Back / Avery Guerra

Just as promised, Chicago area film maker James Baack is keeping us up to date with all the latest news on his latest movie project, "Dracula's Orgy of the Damned." As you can probably gather from the film's title, "Orgy" is Baack's homage to the classic horror films produced by the UK studio, Hammer, in the 1960s. In keeping with that overall feel, Baack has pulled out all the stops for this one, even more so than he did for his last epic, "The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot", and is taking his time to 'get it right'. The film maker has found the best locations possible for filming, including a castle in Illinois that looks like it belongs in Eastern Europe.

Baack is also taking the casting of his film very seriously, hiring Max Shrek look-a-like, master illusionist Ron Fitzgerald, to play Dracula.

What tribute to Hammer would be complete without lovely ladies? Well, Baack has covered his bases there by casting the twin sisters Cassandra and Colleen Carajval, along with the newly added Claire “Fluff” Llewellyn (photo above), who will be playing the lead in the film.

According to Baack, "Claire will be playing the character Patricia Hughes who spends a better part of the story hunting down Dracula on a path of revenge."

Sounds rather "Hammer-like".

Another recent addition to the cast is actor Shawn C. Phillips who has also appeared in “Assault of the Sasquatch", "Hell House" and "President's Day."

Though filming for "Dracula's Orgy of the Damned" began last September, the project has been put on hiatus until the beginning of 2011, in Baack's words, "to capture the gray and 'wintry' feel of the movie."

Look for more "Orgy" news in the near future!

Oh, and before I forget, James also sent along two new 'teaser' posters from his film as well:

Illusionist Ron Fitzgerald To Play The Vampire In DRACULA'S ORGY OF THE DAMNED

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: James Back / Avery Guerra

As you probably remember from last week, I reported that Chicago area film maker James Baack had opted not to go with his "Nuns with jet packs fighting monsters" film, "The Sisters of St.Tommy Gun" as his fallow-up to "The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot" deciding instead to forward with a tribute to classic Hammer horror films entitled "Dracula's Orgy of the Damned."

At that time Baack reveled many of his casting choices, namely his lovely leading ladies, sisters Cassandra and Colleen Carajval, but he failed to mention who exactly would be playing Dracula in the film.

Realising his fopa, Baack was quick to shoot us an email announcing that he been able to entice master illusionist Ron Fitzgerald to play his vampire.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Fitzgerald, here is his bio provided by Baack:

Master Ron Fitzgerald is an Actor, Gothic Illusionist and Host for strange, dark fun! Fitzgerald has performed from Hollywood to Hong Kong with his wicked and weird style of Illusion in his live show "Fitzgerald's Realm of Magic", which includes Ron eating razor blades! He is the only illusionist edgy enough to close the second stage at Lollapalooza. Fitzgerald has appeared as an actor in the feature films "The Item", "The Thirsting", "Blood Gnome", "MAGUS" and others, with more on the way. Ron is the voice of the creature in the upcoming Horror movie "Contagion". He has been a host at the Chicago Horror Film Festival, In The Dark Burlesque and Chad Savage's Zombie Pin Ups as well as other productions including his own cable TV show. One thing is for sure, Fitzgerald is so much freaky fun, he'll leave you screaming for more!

Web Site: http://www.fitzgeraldsrealm.com/

I have to say that this is a great casting choice by Baack, Ron Fitzgerald certainly has that "Nosferatu" (Max Schreck) quality about him that should translate into a great vampire character.

True to his word, Baack has shipped us the first two teaser posters from "Dracula's Orgy of the Damned" along with some shots from the first night of filming, which took place earlier this week.

Look for more updates soon, as you very well know, once Baack starts filming he is all about keeping the fans abreast of whats going on set wise.

Here are the pics (check out the great castle location Baack was able to film at!):

James Baack Pays Tribute To Hammer With DRACULA'S ORGY OF THE DAMNED

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: James Baack

Chicago area film maker James Baack has been very eager to get back behind the camera after producing his first full-length feature film "The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot", so he has been essentially been juggling two film ideas, going back-and-forth between them trying to decide which one to tackle first. Right after "Bloody Rage" was in the can Baack announced that his next film would be "Orgy of the Damned" which would follow the exploits of two Salem era witches. Soon after that announcement, the film maker switched gears and announced that "The Sisters of St.Tommy Gun", a film about Elite Female Mercenaries fighting bad guys and monsters in Mexico, was soon going to begin filming.

Well, after assessing how much "St. Tommy Gun" was going to cost to make, Baack again has gone back to his initial movie idea, though it has now been reworked and renamed "Dracula's Orgy of the Damned."

According to Baack, this film will be a lot more tame than "Bloody Rage" and is more of a tribute to classic horror than pure grind house, "This movie will be a lot shorter than BROB. I'm hoping for 80-90 min running time and will have little or no swearing. I'm kind of tipping a hat to the old Hammer films but not a copy at all."

That's good, nobody likes a copy-cat.

Along with a new script, "Orgy" will feature a couple of new leading ladies, along with some familiar faces. Baack adds, "I have 2 AWESOME new ladies Cassandra and Colleen Carajval. They will play Dracula's minions. Karolina and Alicja (Kasha and Gosha) will be returning as well as Ron Feryeriesen. Andrea (Satantha) may play a small role."

No word from Baack yet about the new story line for this one, but the film maker promises to keep us up to date about everything that goes on, just like he did for "Bloody Rage".

VAMPIRELLA To Be Reborn Courtesy Of Eric Trautmann And Dynamite Comics

Source: Dynamite Comics (Press Release)

Dynamite Entertainment is pleased to introduce Vampirella to a new audience of readers! Vampirella's back and is hot on the trail of her nemesis, Vlad Dracula. It's a darker world for Vampirella, and something even more sinister than vampires lurks in the shadows, something that even Dracula himself has cause to fear. Vampirella is all that stands between us . . . . . . .and the end of the world! Vampirella #1 is written by Eric Trautmann (Action Comics co-written with Greg Rucka), illustrated by Wagner Reis and will arrive at comic shops this November.

"It's a genuine pleasure to be adding to the 'legend' of Vampirella," says writer Eric Trautmann. "There's a long roster of talented creators - Forrest Ackerman, Archie Goodwin, Kurt Busiek, Warren Ellis, James Robinson, Grant Morrison to name just a few - have cast a long shadow over Vampirella. It's an honor to be able to add to that long, rich history, and add some of my own peculiar brand of weirdness to it all. I think people will be really surprised by Wagner's work; he brings a real sense of realism and danger to the page, and manages to create a sexy, intelligent, dangerous Vampirella. Dynamite has been very welcoming, and the experience of working with them has been tremendous fun, and hopefully that translates to the printed page."

"Eric's a talented writer who we're proud to be working with, after first catching our eye while working with Greg Rucka on Action Comics," adds Dynamite President Nick Barrucci. "Dynamite Entertainment is incredibly proud of Eric's vision for Vampirella and we ask fans to join us on what will surely be a fun ride! We're extremely proud to show one of the premiere covers to Vampirella #1 with art by J. Scott Campbell and colorist Nei Ruffino! In the next few days, we will be showing more cover art from Vampirella as well as fantastic interior pages!"

Vampirella is now a part of Dynamite's thriving comic book line-up, which includes Green Hornet, Project Superpowers, The Boys, The Lone Ranger, Zorro, Army of Darkness, Red Sonja and more.

Two Brand New Images From LET ME IN

Unless youve been living under a rock, or you really don't pay attention to movie buzz, you probably already know that "Let Me In" is an American-British horror film directed by Matt Reeves based on the novel "Let the Right One In" by John Ajvide Lindqvist and the Swedish film adaptation of the same name. It tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a vampire child in a New Mexico town in the early 1980s.

In adapting the film, a few adjustments were made, such as changing the names of the protagonists to Owen and Abby, and moving the setting from the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg to "a small New Mexico town." Los Alamos County has granted a special request from the film's director and producer to name the town in the movie "Los Alamos, New Mexico."

Producer Simon Oakes has made it clear that the plot of "Let Me In" will closely resemble that of the original film, except that it will be made "very accessible to a wider audience"; "If you say 'remake', I think that's true to say. That's what it is. It's not a reimagining. [It has] the same beats, maybe the scares are a little bit more scary. We've been able to ramp that up quite a lot, obviously for budgetary reasons."

Being that I lived in New Mexico in the 1980s, the idea of vampires wandering around in Los Alamos doesn't sound that far-fetched to me.

The place was really weird back then.

BEING HUMAN - Lenora Crichlow, Russel Tovey And Aidan Turner At Comic Con 2010

Written By: Ken Hulsey

This is part 3 of my San Diego Comic Con experience.

Part 1 / Part 2

Well, actually this one was experienced by my wife April.

You see, while I was in line to meet the cast of "Ghost Adventures", my darling wife became really excited after looking through the event's program book and said that she had to go and see something and that if she didn't go right now, she would miss it.

Being a typical husband I asked, "What is it?"

Being a typical wife she responded, "It's a surprise."

If your married then you understand this type of communication (or lack off) all too well.

Anyway, to make a long story short, my wife had discovered that a signing by the cast of the BBC series, "Being Human", was going on at that very moment just one floor below us.

Such was the case with literally everything that happens at Comic Con, there is at least a dozen cool things happening at the same time, and unless you are some kind of savant and can read through a hundred page program book, and retain the info, you are likely to miss something.

More on that in tomorrow's Comic Con recap.

Just before my son and I reached the front of the line for "Ghost Adventures", my wife appeared just outside the que, smiling that wonderful smile of hers with a signed card from the cast of "Being Human" in hand.

Granted, I was a little sad that I hadn't gotten to meet them, but at least she got to, and I was about to meet the "Ghost Adventures" cast and she wasn't going to be able to. Fair is fair.

April commented that the entire cast was just "unbelievably beautiful" and were "really friendly and easy to talk to".

Here are April's photos:

BEING HUMAN Season 2 To Debut On BBC America July 24th

Source: BBC America (Press Release)
The highly anticipated second season of BBC AMERICA’s co-production, Being Human premieres this Saturday July 24th. Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow and Aidan Turner return as George, Annie and Mitchell, thethree twenty-somethings trying to live as normally as possible despite being a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost.

After the death of vampire leader Herrick at the end of season one, the supernatural friends are hoping they can now get on with their lives, but an even greater danger is lurking, within the very human world of which they want to be a part. Unbeknown to the trio, the mysterious Professor Jaggat and her cold-hearted colleague Kemp - religious zealots who have discovered the existence of vampires, werewolves and ghosts- are determined to carry out brutal experiments and destroy them.

While Professor Jaggat and Kemp plot behind the scenes, werewolf George is coming to terms with the fact that he has Herrick's blood on his hands, and a girlfriend who knows his horrific secret. Turning down the door of death has implications for ghost Annie, but her confidence is at a peak and she’s determined to stand up and be counted in the real world. And, with Herrick gone, Mitchell must appease an out of control vampire world - can he find a way to lead by example?

Being Human first premiered on the channel last July and quickly won over fans, with a sold out crowd at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. The Los Angeles Times said it “has not only avoided any sci-fi Three’s Company comparisons but wound up with a compelling, self-aware and funny story line. Buffy fans – come out of the Twilight and sink your teeth into this import” with The New York Times noting that “all three characters are highly appealing, but the charm of the show lies in the delicate balance of engrossing drama and disarming humor; the series is not campy or self-conscious, it’s witty in an offhand, understated way.”

The Being Human: Season1 DVD and Blu-ray is available now. It features all six episodes along with over an hour of bonus material including deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, video diaries, and character profiles. The entire first season is also currently available on iTunes and Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
