Joe Harris To Sink His Teeth Into VAMPIRELLA & THE SCARLET LEGION

Source: Dynamite Entertainment

Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion #1 is an ALL-NEW mini-series coming out in May written by Joe Harris! With the main Vampirella series seeing sell-out after sell-out with so many retailers, this new mini-series will serve to compliment this HOT ongoing series. For fans new and old, this series will re-introduce The Scarlet Legion to Vampirella's mythology!

Keeping in mind that #1 main covers sold out from Dynamite, and Vampirella #2 close to a near sell out, there is no question that Dynamite's Vampirella title is a bonafide hit! Dynamite also recently announced that Vampirella Archives, Vol. 1 was #1 on Hardcover Graphic Books New York Times Bestseller List for the week of January 23rd! Dynamite plans on continuing Vampirella's amazing success with Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion!

In May's Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion #1, The Crimson Chronicles, that foul bible of blood, foretells the coming of Chaos, the Destroyer and his servants on earth. Since her earliest days, Vampirella has stood between that vicious cult and their Mad God's plans. But when an ancient prophecy of doom is uncovered and a new push to resurrect the foulest demons from the pit is revealed, it's clear Vampirella won't be able to take them on alone. Enter THE SCARLET LEGION, assembled to keep the dark things at bay and protect this world from the evils which lie beyond. The only question is, will they see Vampirella as friend... or foe?

"I'm stoked to be working on a Vampirella story, one of the baddest, sexiest and most iconic characters and properties in horror comics," says writer Joe Harris. "We're looking to do something big and sprawling with a bit of a globe-spanning sweep to it. A big screen adventure interwoven with some some frightening and truly horrific moments that, I hope, will help keep the dark scary. Vampirella & The Scarlet Legion expands our vampire heroine's inner circle a bit, but not always with friends. Sometimes rivals, or even enemies, make for more interesting dynamics. We're doing horror, after all. You want to keep things tense, and less than rosy. I'm a big fan of what Dynamite has been able to do in this market and I'm both proud and humbled to be on board. They've taken some great properties and really carved out a space for themselves. Nick Barrucci is a true patron of this industry and it's no wonder Dynamite have gotten a lot of well-deserved attention lately."

"I've always followed Joe Harris' writing history, admiring his work inside and outside of the comics market," says Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "After making his return to comics at Oni, we've kept in touch for the last few years trying to find the right project. Vampirella is very important to Dynamite and we would not entrust a series, even a mini-series, to anyone that could not execute. Having seen the overview and Joe's script to date, we definitely made the right call!"

"There are some great things happening in the Vampirella ongoing and now that we've brought Joe [Harris] in, we can begin to add a little flesh to the skeleton," says Dynamite Editor Joe Rybandt. "Readers of the ongoing know that the mystery is right there upfront in terms of who or what Vampirella is and with Vampirella & the Scarlet Legion, we take a step back to time shortly before our main series and explore the roots of the world Vampirella is finding herself in. We'll meet some old friends and a slew of new enemies along the way, Guaranteed."

It's Kirk And Spock vs Zombies in STAR TREK: INFESTATION

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: StarTrek.com

It seems that zombies are everywhere these days and the comic book publisher IDW has let the undead critters run rampant through their titles for the month of February. They have even sent them into deep space to tangle with the beloved crew of the Starship Enterprise.

Yes Kirk, Spock, Bones and the gang will be up to their tribbles in zombies in "Star Trek: Infestation" a two-part spin-off series. According to IDW "Infestation" will put the movie era Enterprise crew into a darker realm then they have ever been before, fighting off hordes of the undead.

"Star Trek: Infestation" is written by David and Scott Tipton and features art by Casey Maloney. In true comic book marketing form, the first issue will feature four different covers by John K. Snyder III, Jason Wright, Casey Maloney, Gary Erskine, Luis Antonio Delgado, Gabriel Rodriguez and Gordon Purcell.

The 32-page book is scheduled to be released on Wednesday (February 9th) and will set you back $3.99 .... that is unless you have to have all four covers then that's a little under $12.

Fear not zombie fans, the undead are also causing mayhem in the IDW comics G.I. Joe, Transformers and Ghostbusters in February as well.

Dynamite Has Big Plans For Vampirella In April

Source: Dynamite Entertainment

With Vampirella #1 main covers sold out from Dynamite, and Vampirella #2 close to a near sell out, there is no question that Dynamite's Vampirella title is a bonafide hit! In April, we have not one but three Vampirella products; Vampirella #6, Vampirella Aurora Model Kit & a limited Vampirella Crimson Chronicles Maximum TPB!

Vampirella #6 is written by Eric Trautmann (Action Comics co-written with Greg Rucka), illustrated by Wagner Reis and Fabiano Neves and will arrive at comic shops next April 2011with amazing covers by Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic, Paul Renaud, Ale Garza, and Fabiano Neves! In issue #6, an ancient, unknowable evil claws its way into our world. Vampirella must stand alone...or all that lives will suffer and die. With Dracula's minions pursuing their own agendas, and legions of tentacular horrors from beyond reality scrabbling for a foothold on the material plane, only one thing is certain: there will be blood.

"Dynamite's first Vampirella arc concludes here, amid tentacular horrors, arterial spray and as much hallucinatory weirdness as I can pack into 22 pages," says writer Eric Trautmann. "It's been a hell of a fun ride for me, and as pleased as I am to reach the climax of this particular chapter in Vampirella's life, I'm equally excited that we're moving on into even stranger territory."

"We're extremely proud to have such immediate success with Dynamite's Vampirella relaunch, says Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "Everyone from Eric Trautmann to artists Wagner Reiss and Fabiano Neves, and cover artists J. Scott Campbell, Paul Renaud, Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic, Joe Madureira, Ale Garza, Joe Jusko, Alex Ross have brought such great attention to our launch by doing such amazing work. And working with Moebious to bring Vampirella's Aurora Kit model, as well as the limited quantites of Vampirella Crimson Chronicles are just icing on top. We look forward to Vampirella's continued success!"

The Vampirella Aurora Model Kit is a snap-fit model kit of the sexy seductress of all vampires! Moebius completes the line of 70's Aurora Monsters with this re-issue of Vampirella. This 1:13 scale Vampirella Model Kit is a snap-fit kit that features easy assembly, movable parts, and ghoulishly girlie details! No glue is needed. The sexy seductress is a reproduction of the original Aurora model kit from back in the day, and she's simply tempting and irresistible even if she does want to drink your blood!

The Vampirella Crimson Chronicles Maximum TPB is a warehouse find, with only 300 copies of this collection available. A collection of Vampirella stories from the original Vampirella #1-37, including nearly every Vampirella story written by Archie Goodwin and drawn by Jose Gonzalez! This is the one indispensible volume for every Vampirella fan.

Vampirella debuted in 1969 in a black & white magazine titled simply VAMPIRELLA. With a stunning cover by legendary artist, Frank Frazetta, Vampirella #1 quickly made publishing history with its depiction of a vampire heroine, and its success prompted comics giants DC and Marvel to launch horror titles of their own. Vampirella appeared in this magazine format throughout the 1970's. Many of these classic stories were illustrated by the legendary artist Jose Gonzalez and have remained quite popular with comics fans to the present day.

After a brief publishing hiatus, Vampirella returned in 1992 and quickly regained her reigning status as the queen of all female comics characters! In continuous publication since her early 90s comeback, Vampirella has been written by top talents including Alan Moore, Mark Millar, Grant Morrison, James Robinson, Jeph Loeb, Warren Ellis, and illustrated by fan favorite artists such as Joe Quesada, J. Scott Campbell, Michael Turner, Jae Lee, Adam Hughes, Mark Texeira, Joe Jusko, Arthur Suydam, and many more! A Vampirella feature film premiered on Showtime Networks in 1996, and the character continues to appear on numerous items of licensed merchandise. Earlier this year, Dynamite Entertainment acquired the Vampirella property from Harris Publications.

Vampirella is now a part of Dynamite's thriving comic book line-up, which will propel Vampirella to new heights just as we did with Green Hornet, The Lone Ranger, Zorro, Red Sonja and more.

Vampirella #5 will be a "5 Star" issue written by Eric Trautmann (Action Comics co-written with Greg Rucka), illustrated by Wagner Reis and Fabiano Neves and will arrive at comic shops next March 2011 with amazing covers by Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic, Paul Renaud, Ale Garza, and Stephen Segovia!

Carving a bloody swath through Dracula's forces, facing down the Lord of the Vampires himself, Vampirella is now face to face with an ancient, unknowable evil, a terrifying force that plans to make Vampirella its eternal queen.

"Sometimes, I really love my job," says writer Eric Trautmann. "It's not everyday you get to create a Lovecraftian horror, begin codifying an ancient religion, and pit Vampirella against Dracula himself. And working with talented co-creators -- pencillers Wagner Reis and some beautiful dream sequences by Fabiano Neves -- well, that's just the icing on the cake."
Dynamite also has several other Vampirella products that will entice fans. Dynamite Entertainment is offering a Vampirella #1 Tim Sale cover, which is a first prints that were printed at the same time as the other covers.

With Vampirella Archive Vol. 1 HC, Dynamite is collecting all Vampirella stories from the beginning in a hardcover archive collection FOR THE FIRST TIME! In September 1969, Vampirella #1 debuted with a stunning cover by the legendary Frank Frazetta - and quickly made publishing history! The writers and artists that contributed during the magazine's original run included Jose Gonzalez, Archie Goodwin, Doug Moench, Bernie Wrightson, Barry Windsor Smith, Esteban Maroto, Frank Brunner, Mike Ploog, Rudy Nebres, Richard Corben, Pablo Marcos, Wally Wood, and many more! Featuring work by Forest J. Ackerman, Don Glut, Tom Sutton, Neal Adams, Ernie Colon, Billy Graham, Alan Weiss, Jeff Jones, and Frank Frazetta, Volume One collects the first seven terrifying issues of the magazine's original run, reprinted in its original magazine-sized format, and features the very first Vampirella cover by the immortal Frank Frazetta!

The Art of Vampirella features a retrospective of artists that have contributed the most memorable imagery of Vampirella. The book features such names as Jose Gonzalez, Adam Hughes, Dave Stevens, Jim Silke, Jae Lee, Joe Jusko, Amanda Conner, Mark Texeira, Mike Mignola, Mike Mayhew, Joe Quesada, Bruce Timm, Arthur Suydam, Dan Brereton, Michael Golden, J. Dejah Thoris Gets Her Own Comic Book Series

Source: Dynamite Comics

Spinning off from the incredibly successful Dynamite Entertainment Warlord of Mars series, Warlord of Mars: Dejah Thoris #1 will arrive in comic book stores March 2011!

Martians live forever -- everyone knows that. So what was Dejah Thoris doing all those hundreds of years before John Carter arrived? Four hundred years before the events of Warlord of Mars took place, Dejah's nation of Helium was divided into two warring city-states. An unscrupulous overlord from afar encouraged that rivalry to his own advantage, until he discovered a terrible secret from Mars' ancient past beneath Dejah Thoris' capital. A secret to kill for!

"Burroughs left so many tantalizing breadcrumb trails in the first few Mars novels, but he never followed most of them," says writer Arvid Nelson. "This series is going to follow some of those trails. We're going to see how Dejah Thoris' kingdom of Helium rose to preeminence. We're going to see her first suitor. And we're going to see Dejah herself kick some ass. She's a great character, totally deserving of her own series. It's great having her in a more active role."

"In addition to what Arvid said, there is so much that can be added to the mythos of John Carter, including the story before the story," states Dynamite Publisher Nick Barrucci. "Arvid has done a fantastic job with the main series, and we are extremely excited by his take on Dejah Thoris."

More Info On GODZILLA MONSTER WORLD From IDW

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Pop Culture Zoo / Mark Torchia

Last October IDW Publishing announced that they had struck a deal with Toho studios to bring the world's most popular monster, "Godzilla", back to comics in the United States. According to IDW the publishing company not only secured the rights to Godzilla, but also Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah as well, characters who until now had never appeared in comic books on this side of the Pacific.

As you probably already know, this will not be the monster's" first comic book series here in America. Way back in 1977/78, Marvel Comics published the 24 issue series "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" which was written by Doug Moench and illustrated by Herb Trimpe. That series featured Godzilla fighting both brand-new monsters and some of the comic book publisher's most famous heroes like Spider Man and the Fantastic Four. Likewise in the 1990s Dark Horse Comics continued the "King of the Monsters" label, again with stories about Godzilla fighting new monsters and an elite combat unit commissioned to destroy him.

In this decade, graphic artist Todd Tennant began publishing a great online comic series called "Godzilla 94" that is based on the unused Sony movie script by Rossio and Elliott.

Efforts by Tennant, and recently Blue Water Comics, to secure the rights to Godzilla for either a "Godzilla 94" comic book or a new comic book series, were ignored by Toho (who would not return phone calls or emails on the subject) which is a strong indication that the IDW deal has been in the works for some time.

More information about this new Godzilla comic, which I forgot to mention is called "Godzilla, Monster World", comes in the form of a press release that IDW just sent out to the media:

IDW Publishing and Toho Co., Ltd. are excited to announce the return to comics for the biggest star in motion pictures! Kicking off in March, GODZILLA®: MONSTER WORLD offers fans the world over the first ongoing comic series in years. GODZILLA® will be joined by many other monsters throughout the series, including MOTHRA™, KING GHIDORAH™, RODAN™ and more that have never before been featured in an American comic book series alongside King of the Monsters™.

“Godzilla has been gone from comics for too long” said Yukio Kotaki of Toho. “And to have it return with other monsters is simply very exciting.”

Bringing these fearsome creatures back to comics is a larger-than-life creative team, led by co-writers Eric Powell (The Goon) and Tracy Marsh. Artist Phil Hester (Kevin Smith’s The Green Hornet) will capture every monster moment. The series will feature not one but two painted covers, offered on a 50/50 basis: Eric Powell will provide a gatefold wraparound cover featuring many beloved Toho monsters, and fan-favorite artist Alex Ross contributed an imposing image of Godzilla®. Powell has also painted a separate incentive cover to herald the debut issue’s launch.

“To be able to launch a Godzilla series that features many fan-favorite Toho monsters never before seen in comics is gratifying enough,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer. “But to do it with the guiding hand and brush of Eric Powell — as perfectly suited a creator as I could’ve hoped to come aboard here – along with Hester, Marsh, and Ross, is about as monstrous a line-up as I could’ve ever hoped for. What’s more, this is just the first series to come in the line. The next one out of the gates features multiple Eisner-nominees and winners handling the creative, so we’re well and truly just getting started here.”

In GODZILLA®: MONSTER WORLD, a full-scale apocalypse is brewing. The monsters are a force of nature whose attacks can be no more predicted or rationalized than a lightning strike. There will be no clean-cut heroes with perfectly chiseled chins and capes billowing in the wind; only ordinary human beings struggling desperately to survive in a world gone mad.

With an impressive cast of monsters both old and new, IDW’s series will treat fans to both familiar themes and original takes on the pop culture legends that have stomped, smashed, and fought their way across movie screens for over four decades.

Adding to great creators and a monster story, IDW is also offering killer retailer specials for GODZILLA®: MONSTER WORLD #1, including a one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn Eric Powell sketch cover. Plus, retailers will be eligible for their very own cover – featuring Godzilla stomping their comic store.

GODZILLA: MONSTER WORLD #1 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in comic stores in March 2011. Diamond order code JAN11 0463.

The Gods Are Set To Take Revenge On RED SONJA

Source: Dynamite Comics

The sequel to Red Sonja: Wrath of the Gods arrives in February with Red Sonja: Revenge of the Gods. In this premiere issue, defeat is eating away at the trickster god Loki. He hates being banished to the barbaric, backward lands of Hyboria. He hates the food, the wine, the women and he hates Red Sonja most of all for putting him in the position. He dreams of revenge and putting this backwater land under his heel. Sometimes dreams come true. Written by Luke Lieberman, look for Red Sonja: Revenge of the Gods #1 this coming February!

"Loki's bitter defeat at Sonja's hands still tastes fresh, imagine a god reduced to consorting with common mortals," says writer Luke Lieberman. "But Loki is a thinker, he has a plan to regain his former glory and more, all he needs is to unleash the Ragnorok. Sonja thought she was done with the trickster, little did she know his greatest trick is yet to come. And when doomsday is upon them, she must call on Thor once more - only one things is certain, many will die in the days to come."

Red Sonja, the She-Devil with a Sword, is a high fantasy sword and sorcery heroine created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith. She first appeared in Conan the Barbarian #23 by Marvel Comics. Red Sonja has become the archetypical example of the fantasy figure of a fierce and stunningly beautiful female barbarian who typically wears armor resembling a bikini or lingerie. The character now appears monthly in two of her own series, Red Sonja and Queen Sonja, as well as a series of mini-series and one-shots from Dynamite Entertainment. So don't miss Red Sonja: Revenge of the Gods this coming February!

Godzilla vs The Gryphon - Exclusive Art From Todd Tennant

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Todd Tennant

It has been quite some time since Todd Tennant has blessed us with some of his exceptional artwork from his "Godzilla 94" online comic based on the unused Sony movie script by Rossio and Elliott.

Though we had to wait quite some time, it was well worth it! Tennant has produced what can certainly be called on of his best pieces, an exclusive image of Godzilla taking on The Gryphon, in what will undoubtedly be a battle for the ages.

Look for more monster action in the upcoming pages of "Godzilla 94"!

Fans can also check out more of Todd's artistic skills in the pages of several titles published by Blue Water Comics, who publish a wide variety of books based on classic horror and sci fi franchises.

"It's rare that we reviewers mention editorial work, but it's obvious that editor-in-chief Kerry Gammill and editor Sam Park worked closely with the creators of all of the stories in this issue. The stories are intelligent and focused. They're tight tales, cleverly written and drawn, that are exactly as long as they need to be and no longer. There's a great contrast between wordier and less wordy stories, between stories with slicker art and more underground feeling art. We even get an interesting text piece and a gorgeous back cover by Bruce Timm. From 1977 through 1979, Godzilla starred in a 24-issue run of comics written by Doug Moench, drawn by Herb Trimpe, and published by Marvel Comics entitled Godzilla, King of the Monsters. The series thrusts Godzilla completely into the Marvel Universe. Dynamite Comics To RAISE THE DEAD Again!

Source: Dynamite Entertainment (Press Release)

Dynamite's hit series Raise the Dead returns with an all-new tale of undead debauchery, plotted by Leah Moore & John Reppion, scripted by Mike Raicht, and with art by Guiu Vilanova! Raise the Dead 2 #1, which will arrive in comic shops this December, also features a cover by the amazing Lucio Parrillo, with a 1-in-10 incentive cover by interior artist Guiu Vilanova!

In issue #1, the zombie infestation continues unchecked and only a handful of survivors fight for their lives against the rising tide of un-dead mayhem. Will these poor souls find hope in the small coastal town of Alfredo Bay or has that world died along with most everything else in this post apocalyptic nightmare? Raise the Dead 2 continues it's descent into a shock filled hell on earth with a heavy side of gore perfect for your holiday happenings! Don't miss it this December!

"I'm so excited to be working with Leah Moore, John Reppion, Guiu Vilanova and everyone else at Dynamite on the follow-up to Raise the Dead," says Mike Raicht. "I loved picking up the first volume with all of the twists and turns it provided. As most people might guess, I'm a huge zombie fan. Working on this book with John and Leah has been an awesome experience! As for the new volume... our heroes have made it to the small coastal town of Alfredo Bay hoping that it provides them a bit of a respite from the zombie onslaught. Does it? Well if it did, that might make for a pretty boring book. In this new volume, we introduce some new characters, catch up with some old ones and, of course, have a bucket load of zombies and gore to throw at you. And just wait until you see what Guiu Vilanova has been cooking up for the art. I've seen the pages for the first issue and a half and I'm even a little skeeved out by the whole thing!"
