Animated American Trailer (2008)

I almost forgot about this independent film from 2008. I haven't seen it personally, but now I want too.
http://www.animatedamericanmovie.com/Involving a mixture of traditional animation and live-action, this film deals with a digital loving executive who is mansion hunting and winds up dealing with his realtor, an out-of-work 'toon rabbit.

Inspector Gadget Champs Commercial (1987)

Back in 2006 I purchased this production cel of Inspector Gadget selling his collectible cups from Champs (KFC) Chicken. And yes, I have held onto a collection of those cups for the past 23 years. lolI finally came across the original commercial that ran locally in Manitoba, Canada way back in 1987.

Although I'm guessing here judging by the art & animation style, I believe that the commercial was created by local animator Cordell Barker who went on to direct popular National Film Board animated shorts "The Cat Came Back" (1988) and "Strange Invaders" (2002).

Conjuring The Villain

The Walt Disney Company was kind enough to give Cartoon Brew TV an exclusive look at the creation of the newest Disney Villain: Dr. Facilier for the upcoming film, The Princess and the Frog.
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/brewtv/princessandfrog.html
Supervising animator Bruce Smith explains the process that went into creating the character and how the voice of Keith David influenced the animators' work which is seen in Dr. Facilier's performance on screen.

More WB/HB Live Action Films Coming

With the surprising success that Fox had with "Alvin and the Chipmunks", Warner Bros feels they have a chance to cash in on a live-action/CG 'toon film with "Tom & Jerry".http://www.variety.com/VR1117998898.html
It has worked before for Warners with the "successful" Scooby-Doo franchise as well as 2 films featuring the original Warner Bros 'toon crew, The Looney Tunes.Along with Tom & Jerry, and the rights to Hanna-Barbera's line of animated properties, Warners also has big-screen adaptations in development featuring "The Jetsons" and "Yogi Bear".Time and box office revenue will tell if these are good ideas after all. I don't have my fingers crossed though.

Book Look: Character Animation Crash Course!

I recently received my copy of Eric Goldberg's Character Animation Crash Course! after pre-ordering it back in June. It was well worth the wait!In my opinion, this how-to animation book ranks right up there with "Animation by Preston Blair" and "The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams".Eric Goldberg is a veteran Director, Designer and Animator who has created feature films, commercials, title sequences and television specials.
His best known animation highlights include Supervisor Animator on the Genie from Disney's Aladdin, Co-Director on Disney's Pocahontas, his 2 sequences from "Fantasia 2000" that include "Rhapsody in Blue" & "Carnival of Animals", the animated title sequence from the recent Pink Panther film, and was the Animation Director of "Looney Tunes: Back in Action".
Goldberg is a unique animator in these modern times because he highly believes in the art of acting and "squash & stretch". Something that is slowly fading from today's animation scene.
The book covers a lot of material broken into 3 main categories: "Conception", and "Technique""Putting It All Together".Eric Goldberg has even gone that extra mile with his book! It's one thing to include pictures and drawings in an animation book, but it's another by actually seeing these animation examples in movement. Eric has included a CD that has Animation Movie Files for your computer so you can follow along with what is being explained in the book. Very cool!So if your an animation student, cartoonist, illustrator or animation fan you won't be disappointed with this great animation title.

Heatchcliff Returning to Animation?

The other orange, fat and striped cat Heathcliff is going to be celebrating his 35th anniversary and the nephew of his creator George Gately, Peter Gallagher, is teaming up with FitzRoy Media to make sure he has an animation comeback.

There are talks about animated features and DVD releases...

John K Does Looney Tunes

According to a recent post on his blog, the creator of Ren & Stimpy, John K would like the opportunity to create some new Looney Tunes material for Warner Bros.
http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2008/08/wb-pitch.html
But don't fear Looney Tunes fans, not actual cartoons but wrap-around animation for new television packages featuring everyone's favorite wabbit, duck, hunter, pig, roadrunner, coyote etc...etc... It's an interesting idea but will Warners think so?

The Roadrunner: Official Spokesman

According to what Misce-looney-ous has posted and other sources have listed, the Looney Tunes' Roadrunner must have a record for most commercial appearances.
Here are 2 more commercials of the Roadrunner advertising Sedex, a delivery company in Brazil.

1986 - 1995

Back in 1996, Animation Magazine was celebrating it's 10 year run. They released a celebration issue complete with a time-line that pinpoints animation highlights.
Now let's take a look back at what was dubbed by some, the "Silver Age of animation"!

Newest Animation/Live Action Venture

This brand new live action/animation Independent short film seems very intriguing!
I hope we get to see "Animated American" up here in Canada as soon as possible!
For more information, check this link from Cartoon Brew:

Hungry Cat

One of my all time favorite animated segments from Sesame Street.
Any idea who animated this scene?

Unused Animation from Looney Tunes: BIA

I came across a blog belonging to a good ol' fashion, traditional, 2D animator by the name of Matt Williames who got his start ironically enough with Space Jam.
http://handdrawnnomadzone.blogspot.com/
He features a couple of unused animation from the recent Looney Tunes film, Back in Action, including a small clip of more Pepe Le Pew animation not seen in the finished version. Check out his great artwork and animations!

A Nod to Jessica Rabbit

A recent music video, "Oh My God!", featuring Mark Ronson and an animated Lily Allen captures Jessica Rabbit's sultry stage performance from the 1988 film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Here's where the inspiration came from for this video:

Drew Carey's Green Screen Show

Back in 2004, The WB aired a season of Drew Carey's Green Screen Show that was a combination of Who's Line is it Anyway? with animation.
Many different studios supplied their styles for the backdrop of these improv actors.
Very clever and funny! Wonder if there is a plan to release this show to DVD?

Song of the South's Tar Baby (1946)

Due to it's unfortunate uses of stereotypes, Walt Disney's 1946 film, Song of the South probably won't be seeing a DVD release anytime soon in North America.
That is a shame because this film boasts great special effects and character animation.
With a total of 3 Brer Rabbit stories, here is the second for your viewing pleasure. Notice the excellent combination of live action and animation when Uncle Remus interacts with the animated forest characters, great stuff.

Stimpy the Animator

Love this clip from "Stimpy's Cartoon Show".
I'm sure everyone has this sense of excitement when starting into the animation field.
