Your Invited To Frankenstein's Wedding

Source: BBC

Lacey Turner, Being Human and former EastEnders star, takes up the role of Elizabeth Lavenza in BBC Three's forthcoming live TV spectacular Frankenstein's Wedding... Live In Leeds.

Lacey, who won the Best Serial Performance award at last month's National TV Awards, is joined on Saturday 19 March by Spotlight Prize winner and star of ITV's upcoming Monroe, Andrew Gower, appearing as Victor Frankenstein, and Mrs Mandela and Doctor Who star David Harewood as the Creature.

For one night only, Leeds' Kirkstall Abbey plays host to a one-of-a-kind live TV event – the marriage of scientist Victor Frankenstein and his bride-to-be, Elizabeth Lavenza.

Frankenstein's Wedding... Live In Leeds is a bold and ambitious project which explores Mary Shelley's gothic masterpiece through live drama and contemporary music.

Nine thousand free tickets will be made available to the public to come and watch the live event and ticket application will open on Friday 18 February at bbc.co.uk/bbcthree.

Andrew Gower says: "The sheer scale and challenge of the project was very attractive and to play a character as renowned as Victor Frankenstein is so exciting."

David Harewood adds: "As soon as I saw the idea on paper, I knew I wanted to do it. Combining so many different elements, live acting, dance, drama and of course the large audience at home and at the performance, was just too dazzling to turn down."

Following on from the success of Manchester Passion (2006) and Liverpool Nativity (2008), which were both broadcast on BBC Three, Frankenstein's Wedding... Live In Leeds brings the passion, emotion and horror from the classic tale to a live audience of 12,000, in addition to the BBC Three viewers at home.

The event focuses on the lavish wedding of Victor Frankenstein and his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth Lavenza. While Elizabeth fusses over seating plans and the wedding band tune up for the reception, Victor broods on a dark secret – the murderous monster he has created.

Harry Lansdown, Acting Controller, BBC Three, says: "The story of Frankenstein is as relevant today as it ever was. I'm delighted to be telling its story on BBC Three through this live drama, which has a great cast and fantastically ambitious audience participation at its very heart."

In a unique take on audience participation, the live audience is invited to attend the event in their best wedding outfits and play a real role as wedding guests.

In the weeks leading up to the event, BBC Learning and Leeds-based Phoenix Dance Theatre are set to help people find their dancing feet through a series of workshops to teach 2,000 locals a special wedding dance routine. This will culminate in a mass celebratory wedding dance live on the night by an audience of 12,000. For full dates and to book a workshop place, visit the Phoenix Dance Theatre website (booking opens at 12noon on Monday 14 February).

A range of exclusive online content to support the live event can be found at bbc.co.uk/bbcthree. Supported by BBC Learning, the site hosts specially created two-minute video diaries for Victor Frankenstein, the Creature, Victor's bride-to-be, Elizabeth Lavenza, and Justine Moritz, Elizabeth's firebrand maid of honour, all of which introduce the characters and set the scene for the dramatic story.

The page also supports the dance workshops, features a video tutorial and a performance of the dance that the public need to learn for the big dance moment at the event. There is also information about the event's dress code and over the next few weeks a behind-the-scenes film, hosted by Creative Director, Colin Teague, whose previous credits include Being Human and Doctor Who, will be added to the site.

The live event features spectacular light projections highlighting the grandeur of Kirkstall Abbey in a way that it has never been seen before. Audiences will be fully immersed in the emotion and horror of the classic tale, from witnessing the very moment Victor gives life to his creation in his laboratory and glimpses of Elizabeth planning her big day, to the Creature's harrowing and deteriorating journey as he seeks justice for his plight.

Frankenstein's Wedding... Live In Leeds is a collaboration between BBC Three, BBC North and BBC Cymru Wales and the event is being supported by key organisations within Leeds, including Leeds City Council, Welcome to Yorkshire, Marketing Leeds and Phoenix Dance Theatre.

Lenora Crichlow Talks About The Third Season Of BEING HUMAN

Source: BBC

How do viewers meet Annie in the new series, as she was left in purgatory in the series two?

When we see her in episode one she is in a bad way – she is still in purgatory and frantic about what will happen to her. She is crying out for help and you get a sense of her desperation. It doesn't look good for her at the beginning of the series.

How does Annie feel about the move to Barry?

To say she is less than excited would probably be the right thing. I don't think Annie is great with change. She likes her routine, she likes familiar surroundings. The fact that they've moved puts her out a little bit and then she surveys Barry and is even more unenthused. But she gets used to it pretty quickly and it does become her home. She's a good homemaker, Annie, so she can cope.

Do you think she'll miss Bristol?

I think there is an element of that, but also a really nice sense of starting again and a fresh start – which I think they all want and need – and, for Annie, it's a chance to make new memories of a place and wipe the slate clean. There is a lot of stuff that wasn't so great about the place she was in – and Bristol itself – so the move is for the best.

How would you describe the new pad?

Big! Big and really fantastic – we were blown away by the set. It's stunning on and off camera. It felt like being in a big dolls' house and felt very homely for a set. It was much more solid then the last set and on a much bigger scale. The attention to detail is exquisite – I was so impressed.

Will Annie's rescue from purgatory show a different side to her this series?

Definitely. Annie's done a 360. When we meet her in series three, she is much more empowered and secure – and I think that's because the worst thing that could have happened to her has happened. She now has fearlessness about her and a real appreciation for everybody that is in her little life. We definitely see a different side to her this series – she has definitely grown.

How would you describe the new characters?

There are some fantastic new characters in the show. This series really starts to pad out the world that the three of them find themselves in. It becomes a lot more complex and you see the scale of what's going on. It's not just the three of them in a flat anymore; it starts to filter out into the real world. There are some brilliant cameos and brilliant regulars that take us through series three. You'll laugh, cry and drool!

The new characters mean the three of us really start to build up a community, as we realise we are not alone. It's what I'd call an alternative community, which they are introduced to and when they begin to explore and become part of it, it's really exciting. But the three of us are still very much a tight unit.

How has it been working with all the fantastic guest stars?

All the guest stars were pretty amazing. Lacey Turner was fantastic – she was great to work with and a lovely person. We had some great scenes together.

Have there been any memorable scenes this year, any scenes that have been particularly fun to shoot?

There's a scene where Russell has to give us this weird look and I don't know how he does it, but he managed to have everybody in hysterics. Even members of the crew had to step off set. We were just in absolute fits – professionalism went out the window completely!

When you get the scripts have there ever been moments when you think: "I never thought they would take Annie there"?

There are a lot of surprises for Annie in this series. The thing with Toby is you just trust him that much that you don't want to second guess him. I won't lie – everybody has a pop at what they think is going to happen – but he just manages to make everything make sense, it's all very organic.

And I'm always in absolute surprise by what's coming next and it keeps me on my toes. It draws me in. Even if you feel you saw it coming, Toby writes it in such a way that you'll have that "huh?" moment.

But one thing I will say is that you need to stick with series three till the end – the end is a blinder!

A Tribute To Anne Francis (1930 - 2011)

Written By: Ken Hulsey

The death of the iconic movie and television actress Anne Francis has shaken me to the core.

It's not just the fact that I was a huge fan of the actress who is known for her roles in the classic sci fi film "Forbidden Planet", the lesser known TV series "Honey West", the legendary series "Twilight Zone" and numerous other roles spanning five decades.

No, it not just the fact that Hollywood has lost one of it's true beauties that has me "shaken", it is the time and date of her death. Call it some kind of cosmic connection, call it a coincidence, but on the same day that Francis passed my wife and I were watching an old VHS tape of "Twilight Zone" episodes that included "Jess-Belle". You may remember that in that episode of the sci fi anthology Francis played the title character, a hillbilly girl who sold her soul to a back woods witch to win the heart of a young man who was betrothed to another.

Upon viewing the episode we both wondered if Francis was still with us and where she may be.? We also pulled out a copy of "Dimensions Behind the Twilight Zone", an excellent book by Stewart T. Stanyard (See Below), and read a interview with the actress about her role in "Jess-Belle" and also "The After Hours".

I had even pondered trying to contact the actress about a possible interview.

Imagine my shock today when I learned that Francis had passed? The news really hit me hard, then after thinking about it, I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Could it have been possible that Francis had died at about the same time that my wife and I were watching her on television or reading about her?

The whole thing was just too eerie for me.

Being a huge fan of Anne Francis I felt compelled to compose this tribute, heck, maybe due to these strange coincidences I was destined to put this whole thing together?

Here is a bio of Anne Francis from Wikipedia:

Anne Lloyd Francis was born in Ossining, New York in 1930, the only child of Philip and Edith Francis. Francis entered show business at a young age, working as a model at age five to help her family during the Great Depression, and made her Broadway debut at the age of 11.

Over her career, Francis appeared in scores of TV shows and movies. She made her film debut in This Time for Keeps (1947). In her early film career, she played supporting roles in films such as: Susan Slept Here, So Young So Bad, and Bad Day at Black Rock. Her first leading role was in Blackboard Jungle (1955). She is perhaps best-known on film for her role as Altaira in the science fiction movie Forbidden Planet. "Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet" is a line in the song "Science Fiction/Double Feature" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, large numbers of whose audience sing the line without ever having seen Forbidden Planet.

Francis found success in television, with several appearances on The Twilight Zone, including the title character in "Jess-Belle" and as Marsha White in "The After Hours." She was a frequent guest star in 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s TV movies and programs. She appeared in two episodes of the popular TV western The Virginian.

In 1964, Francis guest starred in two episodes, "Hideout" and "Rachel's Mother", of the CBS short-lived drama The Reporter. She made two successive appearances in 1964 in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. series. In 1965, Francis turned to series television and was cast as Honey West, a sexy private detective with a pet ocelot. The character was initially introduced on the popular ABC series Burke's Law. She made a guest appearance along with Charles Bronson in a 1967 episode of The Fugitive opposite David Janssen. She played one of the leading roles in Funny Girl in 1968 and one year later, played Nancy Ingersoll, the wife of Jerry Lewis character in the comedy Hook, Line and Sinker. In 1971, at the start of the final season of My Three Sons, she played bowling alley waitress Terri Dowling who eventually married Laird Fergus McBain Douglas of Sithian Bridge, Scotland and returned to his homeland as royalty. (Fred MacMurray played the dual character roles of Steve Douglas and Fergus McBain Douglas in this four part story arc).

During the 1980–1981 season of Dallas, Francis had a recurring role as Arliss Cooper, the mother of Mitch and Afton Cooper. She later played "Mama Jo" in the 1984 TV-detective series Riptide.[3] She made an appearance in Matlock, another popular detective series; and in The Golden Girls as Truvy McMann, Dorothy's friend from college. In 1989 and 1990 she starred in several episodes of Murder, She Wrote. Her most recent television appearance was on a 2004 episode of the CBS series Without a Trace.

And here is some info on the series "Honey West":

Honey West is an American crime drama television series that aired on ABC during the 1965-1966 television season. The series stars Anne Francis as female private detective Honey West.

The Honey West character was created by Gloria and Forrest E. "Skip" Fickling under the pseudonym "G.G. Fickling" in the late 1950s. West was one of the first female "private eyes" to ever appear on television. Francis first played West in the Second Season (Episode #2) of Burke's Law entitled "Who Killed the Jackpot?", broadcast on April 2, 1965, which led to this series being commissioned as a spin-off.

In the series, West had a partner and man-Friday "Sam" (John Ericson, who had played the Francis character's brother Pete in Bad Day at Black Rock), who usually stayed in the background or sat in their high-tech surveillance van talking to Honey via a radio hidden in her lipstick case. Her alluring feline qualities were reflected by her animal-print wardrobe and decor. She also kept an exotic pet ocelot named Bruce (in one episode, the African series Daktari was showing on Honey's TV set, and Honey said "Oh Bruce, why do we always have to watch your show?"). For sneaking around at night and engaging in energetic fight scenes, she wore a black fabric bodystocking reminiscent of Emma Peel's leather jumpsuit. Like Peel's Lotus Elan sports car, Honey's similar-looking AC Cobra convertible also emphasized her independence and vitality. Although the racy content of the novels was excised for television, West often went on solo undercover missions that required a provocative or revealing outfit. She also used a number of James Bond-type gimmicks: an exploding compact, a garter-belt gas mask, and tear-gas earrings. West was also a black-belt in Judo, as was her partner, Sam.

In her own words:

Earlier is this piece I talked about Anne's appearance in the classic episode of the "Twilight Zone" entitled "The After Hours" for which she later reminisced about in the book "Dimensions Behind the Twilight Zone" by Stewart T. Stanyard (See Below):

"I loved it. My first impression was what fun it was going to be to play that role. The humor in the beginning. The spaciness of each little step that took place, sort of just a little bit off-center until the horror begins for this young woman who has absolutely no memory at all of who she is or why she's on the ninth floor. The progression of that character was a lot of fun.

And then about the episode "Jess-Belle":

"(In) This one, we were able to indulge more in the different characters. Like Jeanette Nolan as the witch was wonderful, and she had her great scenes. And Jimmy (Best) as the innocent young man who is tormented really with these two women - the darkness of Jess-Belle and the spell of Jess-Belle, and the other woman, the sweet woman that really should be his love. But every time Jess-Belle was around, her spirit invaded him. There was more time to play with these emotions (referring to the fact that the episode was an hour long) and characters, and sit back and see how all of them were tormented in their own way. Except for the witch. I've told Earl (Hammer) I want to play the witch in his musical version. and he said 'No, I want you to do Jess-Belle.' But I think that it would be such fun to play the witch. With all the little potions, and wear the wonderful crazy nose and put warts on and the wild hair..."

This is from People.com:

Anne Francis, a sweet-voiced honey blonde who starred as a sexy Jane Bond-type detective on TV's Honey West in the mid-'60s and was a CinemaScope eyeful in the '50s sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet, died Sunday of complications of pancreatic cancer at a retirement home in Santa Barbara, Calif., the Los Angeles Times reports. She was 80.

With a distinctive beauty mark below her lower right lip, Francis, though never a top-ranking star, always had her devoted cult followers. Among her better-known movies were Bad Day at Black Rock, Blackboard Jungle, Don't Go Near the Water and Funny Girl, though in that last picture she claimed her best scenes ended up on the cutting-room floor. She played a Ziegfeld Girl gal pal of headliner Fanny Brice, played by Barbra Streisand.

In Forbidden Planet Francis was Altaira, the daughter of the space scientist played by Walter Pidgeon."I got that part because I was under contract to MGM and I had good legs," Francis later said. Her love interest in the movie was a handsome young Leslie Nielsen, who died in November.

A native of Ossining, N.Y., the former child actress went to Hollywood and signed contracts with the studios in the '40s, but her career finally took hold in the next decade thanks to live-TV productions. She is survived by two daughters and a grandson.

Its Debbie Gibson vs Tiffany (Oops) I Mean Mega Python Vs Gatoroid On SyFy

Source: NBC / Universal

In what promises to be the television movie event of 2011, 1980s singing sensations Debbie Gibson and Tiffany get down and dirty in their long-awaited pop princess smackdown when they co-star in the ripped-from-the-headlines Syfy Saturday Original Movie, Mega Python Vs Gatoroid, which will premiere Saturday, January 29, at 9PM (ET/PT).

A production of The Asylum, Mega Python Vs Gatoroid takes an up-close-and-personal look at the crisis in the Florida Everglades where invasive Burmese pythons are threatening the indigenous alligator population. Gibson portrays a fanatical animal rights advocate who spends her evenings “liberating” illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores and setting them free in the Everglades, where the pythons grow and thrive.

Tiffany plays an over-zealous park ranger worried about the growing ecological damage. To save her beloved alligators, she’s willing to employ dubious methods, overdosing them with steroids so they grow mega, setting off a war between the species – and putting her on a collision course with Gibson.

Mary Lambert (Pet Sematary) is director of Mega Python Vs Gatoroid – the first time a woman has directed a Syfy Saturday Original Movie. The writer is Naomi Selfman (Evil Eyes).

In their most recent Syfy roles, Tiffany starred in Mega Piranha, while Gibson starred in Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus.

Tiffany at age 15 was the youngest female artist to have a #1 debut album. Her global smash hits include I Think We’re Alone Now, Could’ve Been, I Saw Him Standing There, and All this Time…selling more than 15 million records worldwide. To this day, her groundbreaking “mall tour” sets the precedent to launch young musical careers. Venturing into acting, Tiffany starred as the voice of “Judy Jetson” in Jetsons: The Movie and has appeared in many award winning indie festival films. In 2002 Tiffany graced the cover of Playboy; her pictorial became one of the best selling issues of all time. Her album The Color of Silence was named “one of the finest pop albums of 2000” by Billboard. 2007 marked her return to the Billboard charts with three Dance Hits. Tiffany makes her home in Nashville with her husband and son, and is currently writing and recording her country music debut.

Debbie Gibson began her career at 16 with the hit Only in My Dreams. She has sold 16 million albums and still holds the world's record for being the youngest writer/producer/performer of a #1 hit. She went on to star in critically acclaimed Broadway shows such as Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, and Cabaret, among others. She originated Sandy in the West End revival of Grease, breaking box office records. Gibson received rave reviews for her sold-out, one-woman show, Pop Goes Broadway, with critics calling it "the best show of the year at Harrah's." She also guest starred in Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy at MGM/Foxwoods. Currently, Gibson runs her "Electric Youth" summer camp and music programs throughout the year to mentor young aspiring songwriters and performers, as well as awards scholarships through her “Gibson Girl Foundation.” She’s also a spokesperson for Murad, Inc. As the new spokesperson for Children International, she recently spent time in impoverished villages in Manila. Her new album for Sony Japan, Ms. Vocalist, is presently Top 10 in the Billboard Charts with the first single I Love You at #1. She will be doing a concert tour overseas in February 2011.

"The Show Will Go On!" CINEMA INSOMNIA'S 10th Season Fully Funded!

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Mr. Lobo

When the host of the nationally syndicated late-night horror showcase "Cinema Insomnia" decided to make the 10th season something special he knew that he would have to get a little help to raise the funds necessary to make his vision become a reality. As most of you already know, independent productions sometimes don't rake in the kind of cash that say.....oh I don't know..... films like "Avatar" do, so finding the resources to get things rolling can be a bit tight.

Lobo decided to put his pride on the shelf for a bit and go directly to his fans, via Kickstarter, to ask for their donations to get the $10,000 he would need to produce his shows 10th season. It was a big risk for the Sacramento, Ca based production. A big risk that payed off in a big way.

In late November the campaign to launch the 10th season of CI went into full effect, and early on things didn't look good. Money began to trickle in slowly and about half-way through the 30 days allotted to raise the needed funds only about $3,000 had been pledged. The early returns weighed very heavily on Lobo who knew that his fan base was very loyal, but people had families to feed and Christmas was just around the corner. Perhaps the horror host had chosen the wrong time to petition for funds?

Despite these early setbacks, the CI fans ultimately didn't let Lobo down and as the time ticked off on the last evening of the Kickstarter program the money came in ...... and how. A late surge in donations pushed the tally past the projected $10,000 mark to an amazing $11,140!

Mr. Lobo was moved to say the least.

In response to the overwhelming response to all of the generosity bestowed by his loyal fans, Mr. Lobo had this to say:

"Mr. Lobo is the luckiest boy in the whole world! The CASH-O-METER exploded at $10,000—sending springs and sparks showering everywhere! We are still getting donations and we have two hours to go. Sources say we’re creeping up on $11,000!

You did it CINSOMNIACS, INSOMNIACS, SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, FAIR WEATHER FANS, FRIENDS, LOVED ONES, FELLOW HORROR HOSTS, ART-LOVERS, MONSTER KIDS, FILM GEEKS and COLLEAGUES…

YOU DID IT!

Together, we made indie television history and saved the world for misunderstood movies!"

He then went on to personally thank every single person who donated their hard-earned money to back the show. You can read all of those "thank yous" here - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cinemainsomnia/cinema-insomnia-10-year-anniversary/posts

This just goes to prove that even in country such as ours, though times may be tough all around, people still will find ways to keep something that brings them joy alive. Mr. Lobo and CI are proof that the American dream is still very much alive and that quality entertainment can be produced without the backing of mega studios and huge corporations.

Indeed Lobo is the "luckiest boy in the whole world", his fans have stood by him for ten years, far longer than the attention span of the average TV viewer. About 99% of the television series that have been launched during CI's run have come and gone, which is a true testament to just what Lobo has been able to produce with a small crew and independent actors.

Bigger is not always better and CI proves it.

DESTINATION TRUTH Goes "Live" On St. Patrick’s Day

Source: NBC / Universal

On Thursday, March 17, 2011, Syfy’s hit adventure reality series Destination Truth will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the show’s first-ever LIVE investigation! Host Josh Gates will take viewers to Ireland for the Season 4.5 premiere, where he and his team will brave the crumbling ruins of Duckett’s Grove Castle in search of the truth behind the legend of the banshee.

According to Irish legend, the banshee is a sign of impending death; a female ancestral spirit who wails around a house the night before someone inside is to meet their demise. Today, many County Carlow locals claim to have witnessed hearing the banshee’s unmistakable wail and seeing glimpses of an ethereal woman stalking the grounds of the 200 year-old historic ruins of Duckett’s Grove Castle. Armed with equipment, expertise and, as always, humor, Josh and team will attempt to solve the mystery behind this age-old legend.

Josh’s return to Ireland marks the one-year anniversary of the series’ most-watched episode (featuring a hunt for the leprechaun that aired on St. Patrick’s Day 2010).

Other adventures this season include tackling claims of spirits in Namibia, a sea monster in Cyprus and mysterious creatures in Panama and Argentina. Then, in another Destination Truth first, the team will trek to Antarctica, where strange phenomena occurring around abandoned research stations has stumped scientists. Now, the Destination Truth crew will brave the elements to conduct the world’s first paranormal investigation on the frozen continent, giving viewers a rare and unique glimpse at this rarely visited landscape…as well as, perhaps, a look into its past.

Yet Another Monster Rises To Attack Japan In THE MAN WHO SUMMONS KAIJU

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Robert Hood / Avery Guerra

Many people thought that once Toho put Godzilla on hiatus that the giant monster genre in Japan would have gone on hiatus along with him. That, however, was not the case. In the past six years since Godzilla was given a well deserved vacation, the genre has actually experienced the kind of boom not seen since the 1960s. It seems that many Japanese monster movie makers were simply waiting for 'The King' to step aside for a while so that they could have their moment to showcase other monstrous creations.

And it's not just Japanese cinema that has caught 'monster fever' over the past half-decade, there have been several great monster series produced for Japanese television as well. This, of course, leads me to today's subject matter, a one-off TV special (25 minutes in length) called "The Man Who Summons Kaiju" (Kaijû wo yobu otoko) which is set to debut this Friday (December 10th).

The short film, or episode actually, is the creation of director Daisuke Andô and stars veteran Japanese monster movie actor, and anime voice actor, Tetsu Watanabe (Godzilla vs Mothra, Godzilla x MechaGodzilla, The Ring, Princess Mononoke) as well as Nao Nagasawa (Daimajin Kanon) and Gen Hoshino who plays a Japanese movie maker who's quest to produce a monster film takes an unexpected turn, when a real monster shows up.

I know what your thinking, it's been done before. A 'real' monster shows up while someone is trying to film a monster flick. How 'Scooby Doo' right?

Well, yes the idea may not bee too original, but we are talking about a giant monster program here, so we can cut Ando and company a little slack.

Here is the synopsis:

Kouta Soejima (Gen Hoshino) works for the Saga Film Commission. One day, approached by an old school friend now working in the film industry, Kouta is given the opportunity to make a monster movie and eagerly takes up the challenge. He begins scouting for locations, seeking the perfect shoot location — which turns out to be the hometown he had left years before. As elements of his past start to catch up with him, he finds that something else — something big — is about make an appearance…

The folks over at NHK were quick to point out that the monster would be seen in the episode, and that the production company opted to forgo the traditional 'man in a suit' style effects for computer generated ones.

The spokes person for the project also had this to say about the monster, "As for the daikaiju that is in the film, its appearance is based on a fish known as “Odontamblyopus lacepedii”, which looks a little like H.R. Giger’s Alien design."

What is a Odontamblyopus lacepedii you may ask? Besides being something that is a pain in the ass to spell, it is a form of eel that lives off the coast of China, Korea, and Japan ...... and is really, really ugly.

Actually kinda looks like the monster that popped out of the wall in "Big Trouble in Little China."

"What? What will never come out again!?"

Classic!

Anyway, here is the trailer, plus some stills and behind-the-scenes shots from "The Man Who Summons Kaiju". It should be noted that the second pic is of a cute little toy monster that has been produced as a publicity tool for the show, not the actual monster from the episode.

Mr Lobo Goes IN SEARCH OF ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS - Celebrating 10 Years Of Cinema Insomnia

Written By: Ken Hulsey

In honor of Cinema Insomnia's pending 10 year anniversary, I thought it would be cool to post this classic clip from the episode "In Search of Ancient Astronauts".

The show, as you have probably already rationalized, centers around the famed 1973 NBC documentary "In Search of Ancient Astronauts" which was hosted by "Twilight Zone" creator Rod Serling. The movie is kind of a poor man's version of the major motion picture "Chariots of the Gods" which is based on the novel by Swiss researcher Erich von Däniken who believes that mankind's origins may have come from outer space and that there is plenty of archaeological evidence in existence to prove it.

The film would also serve as the pilot episode for Serling's famed television series "In Search Of", which also dealt with subjects from the realm of the unexplained like UFOs, Bigfoot, Easter Island and spontaneous human combustion.

In this classic episode of "Cinema Insomnia" every ones favorite horror movie host, Mr. Lobo, sets out to find the truth about all of this alien visitation mumbo-jumbo by traveling across the globe to many of the locations featured in the film including the infamous "Area 51". Much to Lobo's surprise, finding the exact location of one our countries most top-secret instillation's isn't as difficult as one would expect, thanks in part to the 'Freedom of Information Act.' All anyone needs to do is simply call information (411) and ask for the number.

Simple right?

Well, as Lobo soon discovers, he has been given the number of "Area 51 Auto Salvage" not the "Area 51" where all the UFOs are kept.

Best line: "You'll never get Blue Book for a fixer-upper Yugo (UFO) no matter how many parts you buy from us."

In his quest for the truth Mr. Lobo also manages to get abducted by actual aliens, who intern do some rather intrusive testing on him, for which he earns $20 for his services.

In the end (no pun intended there) Lobo, like Fox Mulder before him, finds the truth on the subject of aliens and UFOs just outside his reach. It seems that there are just some things man was never meant to know.

Here is a quick update on Mr. Lobo's progress on raising $10,000 to produce a brand-new 26 episode 10 the anniversary season of "Cinema Insomnia". As of today, the fund-raising effort through Kickstarter has raised $3,086.

This is what the world famous horror host had to say in gratitude to everyone who has donated so far:

"Mr. Lobo is very thankful for the wonderful people who have pledged toward making the CINEMA ISOMNIA 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY the best season yet! That’s right, 44 total both on the grid and in the real world gave some of their hard earned cash for the cause of late night slumber party silliness.

There are certainly a lot of worthy causes asking for donations this Holiday season—but I hope you know how important some silliness on a Saturday night can be. Horror Hosts are not cancer scientists or missionaries or doctors but if you could read some of the letters I have received over the years…

CINEMA INSOMNIA has been a comfort people who can’t sleep because of illness or mothers up late with their babies, It has helped estranged fathers and sons come together, it was a sign of normalcy to families just getting regular TV signals again after a regional disaster, it has been the date night or family night for the very poor, a companion for the alienated and clinically depressed, the show has thwarted suicides and has brightened the life of severely disabled, and been a source of entertainment for so many more.

CINEMA INSOMNIA has giving me personally so very much. It has been a wonderful creative outlet and the process is very therapeutic. It’s how I get back what the real world beats out of me and I have had so many adventures and have got to know so many fantastic human specimens. As a look over my bounty I am very grateful to have such generous and supportive people in my life. Here are some folks I am particularly thankful for right now…I hope I won't let you down..."

Mr. Lobo Is Set To Begin Production On The Tenth Season Of CINEMA INSOMNIA

MR. LOBO Is Set To Begin Filming The Historic 1oth Season Of CINEMA INSOMNIA ...... With A Little Help From His Freinds And Fans.

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Mr. Lobo

As most of you already know, I am a HUGE fan of the nationally syndicated late-night movie program "Cinema Insomnia" which stars local Sacramento icon, Mr. Lobo and a incredible cast of misfits and monsters, including the shows co-host, the lovely house-plant (yes, I said 'house-plant') Miss Mittens.

I actually stumbled upon the program back in 2003, when I purchased a DVD copy of the CI episode, "Gigantis the Fire Monster" (aka 'Godzilla Raids Again) on eBay. At the time, there was no formal DVD release for the often misunderstood "Gojira" sequel, so I took a chance on it.

Upon viewing the episode I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. The show was a great tribute to the late-night horror movie showcases of the 1970s and early 80s. You know, back in the day when guys used to dress up like "Dracula" and make corny jokes about the movies.

Yes, people used to do that sort of thing before we all got formally introduced to Cassandra Peterson's (Elvira) cleavage.

Many of you may be too young to remember these shows, but for many of us, it was the only way to view the classics like "Frankenstein", 'Godzilla" and "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" during the 'dark ages' before Cable TV, VHS, DVD, and The Internet.

Lobo, had the whole thing down to a science, funny gags based on the movies, weird guest stars, and an occasional bit of 'T & A', just for good measure.

Any way, to make a long story short, I contacted Mr. Lobo to tell him how much I loved his program, and he was surprised to learn that someone was actually 'willing' to pay for a copy of one of his shows ...... and actually enjoyed it. Needless to say, we have been good friends ever since and I have become a life-long fan of "Cinema Insomnia".

That brings me to the subject at hand. Mr. Lobo is set to begin work on the historic 10th season of CI, but as all good independent TV show producers are these days, he is in need of some financial backing to get the whole thing off the ground.

Here is the press release:

Mr. Lobo is an independent producer and host of a TV show called CINEMA INSOMNIA that will soon be celebrating its 10th anniversary. Mentored by Creature Features host Bob Wilkins and given nods from Elvira and other late night horror hosts—Mr. Lobo’s show a throwback to late night movie programs of yesteryear as well as a platform for indie films, genre classics, shorts, gems from their archives, satire, absurdist humor, interviews, and looks at the off beat side of entertainment. This special blend of weirdness has been seen on 100’s of channels coast to coast.

“It’s not been easy. Most of what you see on commercial TV is a product and it’s corporately controlled.” Says Lobo in a video proposal uploaded to KICKSTARTER, a website used by indie filmmakers, musicians, and artists to fund their creative projects.

“You hear a lot of hullabaloo about independently produced movies—but not so much television. Cinema Insomnia is a labor of love…”

In recent seasons, however, financial setbacks have made it difficult to add very many new episodes into the syndication line up. Stations are happy to repeat the 30 or 40 shows in their cue. Halloween Specials and other new shows are purely a service to the fans.

For the 10th anniversary Mr. Lobo plans to pull out all the stops and do Cinema Insomnia’s first full season in several years. Like in their hey-day back in 2003-2004 they want to produce 26 brand new full episodes for the 2011-2012 season. This is expected to electrify the fans! The Kickstarter funds promise to help them meet this goal.

The episodes will be seen on AMGTV stations (http://www.amgtv.tv/) as well as other broadcast TV stations across the country, on demand via Amazon, Mevio, Livestream and Roku, and released on DVD by Apprehensive Films(thegrindhouse.net).

On the CINEMA INSOMNMIA 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY Kickstarter page backers may get exciting rewards. A link on cinemainsomnia.com and a 10th Anniversary button at the $5 level, $25 also gets you a certificate of appreciation and an 8X10 signed by Mr. Lobo! If you happen to donate the full ten grand goal you can co-host an entire show! There are lots of levels in between so check out all the rewards at: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cinemainsomnia/cinema-insomnia-10-year-anniversary.

Trust me, this will be money well spent people! "Cinema Insomnia" is one of the best programs on television today and we all need to do our part to ensure that the 10th season of this landmark series gets made.

How else will we all get enjoy quality films like, "Creature", "Star Crash" and "Monster From A Prehistoric Planet"?

I ask you, how?

Just think of the children and how much joy a 10th season of CI will bring to them? Just think of the children.

Give a gift that will keep on giving for generations ...... what? ....... too much? okay, I'll stop.

Just give what you can.
