A Quick Update On NIGHTBEASTS

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Brent Thomas

I just got an email from Brent Thomas about a new festival screening of the really cool looking Bigfoot horror "Nightbeasts".

Yes, I know, another day another Bigfoot movie right?

Well, normally I would say yes, but "Nightbeasts" looks like an excellent entry into the genre with all kinds of Native American lore and pissed off Sasquatch's running around.

Anyway, the film is set to premiere at the end of this month (Feb 24-27) at the Independent Film Quarterly Film Festival at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.

Hopefully Brent can score me some tickets to that one.

Here is the trailer for "Nightbeasts":

Japanese SciFi Epic GANTZ To Hit Theaters Nationwide In January

Source: Media Lab

GANTZ, a live-action Japanese feature event, is making its world premiere in 325 movie theaters in an exclusive one-night Fathom event on Thursday, January 20th, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CT / 6:00 p.m. MT / 8:30 p.m. PT (tape delayed). Following the feature, GANTZ’s two leading actors, Kazunari Ninomiya (Letters from Iwo Jima) and Kenichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Detroit Metal City) will participate in an exclusive live interview that can only be seen at this event.

Tickets are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, please visit the web site (theaters and participants are subject to change).

Presented by NCM Fathom and NEW PEOPLE, in association with Dark Horse Comics, GANTZ (English dubbed) tells the story of childhood friends Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato who are accidentally killed while trying to save another man’s life. Rather than find themselves in the hereafter, however, they awaken in a strange apartment in which they find a mysterious black orb they come to know as “GANTZ.” Along with similar abductees, they are provided with equipment and weaponry and manipulated into playing a kind of game in which they are sent back out to the greater world to do battle with alien beings, all while never quite knowing whether this game is an illusion or their new reality.

Ninomiya and Matsuyama are two of Japan’s biggest stars. Ninomiya, best known in America for his role in Clint Eastwood’s 2006 blockbuster, Letters from Iwo Jima, is both an actor and a singer. He is world-renowned as a member of the Japanese boy band “Arashi,” which topped Japan’s music charts in 2009 with the three best-selling singles. Matsuyama has been one of the most sought-after actors in Japanese film and has won several awards including Japanese Academy Awards Best New Actor (2007) and Most Popular Actor (2009). Matsuyama is recognized for his part as L in Death Note (2006), Death Note II: the Last Name (2006) and Death Note: L, change the WorLd (2008).

“GANTZ is the kind of kinetic action film that pushes the boundaries of the sci-fi genre,” said Seiji Horibuchi, founder of NEW PEOPLE. “We’re very excited to work with NCM Fathom and Dark Horse Comics to organize this special event and look forward to the property’s domestic popularity growing even more following this new release.”

GANTZ will appear in 325 theaters, including AMC Entertainment Inc., Cinemark USA Inc., Clearview Cinemas, Cobb Theatres, Goodrich Quality Theatres, Hollywood Theaters, Marcus Theatres, National Amusements, Rave Motion Pictures, R/C Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters, as well as The Beacon Cinema (Pittsfield, MA), The Carolina Theatre (Asheville, NC) and Palace Cinema 9 (South Burlington, VT), through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network —North America’s largest cinema broadcast network.

“GANTZ offers a thrilling world that nobody has ever seen in live-action,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom. “Incredibly popular in Japan as well as among American manga and anime enthusiasts, this new GANTZ rendition is sure to thrill audiences in local movie theaters around the country.”

EMPTY TRASH - Starring Rachel Grubb - To Debut At Minneapolis Underground Film Festival

Source: Rachel Grubb (Press Release)

Minnesota filmmakers J.L. Sosa and Tristan Corrigan eagerly await the worldwide festival debut of their 26-minute short film, “Empty Trash,” at the
Minneapolis Underground Film Festival.

It will bring a gag-inducing finish to the MUFF’s Short Story Film Showcase, at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. MUFF-goers can expect a fast- paced whirlwind of murder and bleak humor that Geek Tyrant called “great and disturbing” and Horror News Net said “ends with you wanting more.”

To order tickets, visit: Minneapolis Underground Film Festival

“Empty Trash” is a neo-noir crime drama/horror short about a paroled ex-con who is forced into executing a small-time heist that quickly descends into sadistic mayhem. It stars some of the edgiest performers to emerge from the Midwest independent fi lm scene: Loren Farrand, Wade Dienert and Alex Wade. Making a special appearance is legendary scream queen, screenwriter, producer, director and pin-up model Rachel Grubb (“Chimera Tribe: The Rakai,” “Bad Girls Burn In Hell,” “Why Am I in a Box?”)

“Empty Trash” was written, produced, edited and co-directed by Jorge Luis aka J.L. Sosa (“Moon Patrol,” “Donna, My Love”). Sosa’s greatest claim to fame is co-starring with cult moviemaker Ted V. Mikels in R.P. Whalen’s 2006 mockumentary “Mondo Collecto.” Sosa is also a freelance writer, reporter for the award-winning weekly newspaper the Hutchinson Leader, and contributor to the movie news website Film School Rejects.

Co-director and cinematographer Tristan Corrigan is a recently commisioned officer in the U.S.
Navy serving on the USS Gary. While attending Iowa State University, he worked on the crew
of the After Dark horror film, “Husk.” After several years of kicking ass for Uncle Sam on the high seas, he hopes to return to the film world with a vengeance.

The “Empty Trash” teaser trailer is online at www.vimeo.com/11191361.

Presented by the Academy’s Science and Technology Council.

Hosted by Academy Award-nominated effects artist Shane Mahan.

“It’s a perfect night for mystery and horror. The very air itself is filled with monsters.” – Elsa Lanchester as Mary Shelley in “Bride of Frankenstein” (1935)

Special effects makeup artist and on-set animatronic effects supervisor Shane Mahan hosts an evening exploring the evolution of creature technology in feature films and the fundamental role it plays in shaping monster movies.

Film clips will trace the evolution of creature technology, from “King Kong” (1933), “Bride of Frankenstein” (1935), “Creature from the Black Lagoon” (1954), “Horror of Dracula” (1958), “One Million Years B.C.” (1966), “Planet of the Apes” (1968), “The Exorcist” (1973), “An American Werewolf in London” (1981), “Aliens” (1986) and “Jurassic Park” (1993) through the digital age of “Zathura: A Space Adventure” (2005) and “King Kong” (2005).

The evening will include conversations with some of the films’ creative teams who will discuss the role art and technology play in shaping creature design in feature films. Check back for panelist updates.

Complementing the presentation will be a lobby display of historic and contemporary artifacts used to create the visually stunning effects for a range of aliens and creatures from classic monster movies.

UNITED MONSTER TALENT AGENCY Added To AN EVENING WITH BELA LUGOSI Event

Writtten By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Sam F. Park

Sam F. Park of Monsterverse Comics just shot me an email to let everyone know that there has been another film added to the bill of the special "An Evening With Bela Lugosi" event at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood to celebrate the launch of "Bela Lugosi's Tales From The Grave.

Now, along with Lugosi's classic films "The Black Cat" and "The Raven" will be KNB Effects make-up artist Greg Nicotero's (The Walking Dead) short film "The United Monster Talent Agency."

The eight minute newsreel shows how "real" monsters were "wrangled" for use in classic horror films and not performed with actors! The cast includes cameos by Frank Darabont, Robert Rodriguez, Eli Roth, Cerina Vincent, Dana Gould, Jeffery Combs, Carey Jones, Arden Myrin, Erica Frene, Sam Page and Jake Garber.

Hmmm .... I always thought those monsters always looked too real.

Here is the event info in case you missed it:

Minneapolis Filmmakers Carve A Slice Out Of Halloween With A Horror Double Feature

Source: Rachel Grubb / Press Release

Hey, didn't I just mention a horror movie double-feature, in Minnesota, that starred Rachel Grubb, scheduled for Halloween, just a minute ago?

I'm certain that I did ....... It looks like the “Land of 10000 Lakes,” is going to be the 'it' spot this Halloween for horror movie lovers!

Here is a copy of the press release that Rachel just sent me:

With Halloween just around the corner, skin-crawling horror flicks are just what the psychotic doctor ordered. A pair of Twin Cities filmmakers are filling the prescription with a terrifying double feature: Grinning Faces, followed by an extended version of local fan favorite, The City.

“Grinning Faces mashes together sex, violence and storytelling to create a trippy experience,” explains first-time director Noah Tilsen.

“We follow a confused man as he is manipulated down a path of debauched love. As he transforms into something worse, the people in his wake are left in terrible shape.”

James Vogel’s cinematic offering – The City — follows an aspiring screenwriter on a quest for his muse. But when a psychotic killer takes him under his wing, sweet inspiration turns to foul murder.

This will be the second showing of The City — but this time, the film features an alternate ending, along with extended scenes and other spooky extras.

“It’s like The Lord of the Rings: Special Edition — only more awesome,” says Vogel, adding, “The new additions are sure to please.”

Grinning Faces Cast Information

Danny August Mason takes the lead in this intense 30-minute short. In addition to appearing in numerous films and commercials, Danny is a well-known lecturer of the paranormal. B-Movie horror goddess Rachel Grubb plays the love interest. Her onscreen credits include Strip Club Slasher, Terror Overload and Camp Kill. Local actor and casting director Matthew Feeney plays the mentor role. Feeney’s credits include Faux and Phasma Ex Machina.

The City Cast Information

Ezra Stead and Greg Hernandez star in and co-wrote the film along with director James Vogel. Both are primarily known for their stage work: Stead is a four-time National Poetry Slam team member from Minneapolis, as well as an emcee for the hip-hop group Matching Wits, while Hernandez is a local stand-up comedian currently producing and starring in the "Yeah No Sketch Show" at the Bryant-Lake Bowl. Hernandez has also starred in numerous independent films, one of which, Winter Lilacs, premiered at the 2009 SXSW Film Festival.

The City co-stars Matthew Feeney and Sasha Andreev (Phasma Ex Machina), Paul von Stoetzel (director of SNUFF, SCRAP, and Dinner Date), and features special appearances by horror film stars Nicole Kruex, Scarlet Salem, and Landyn Banx (Terror Overload).

Showtime

The double feature plays on October 28th at 9:30 pm at the Riverview Theater, 3800 42nd Ave S, Minneapolis. $3 tickets or free admission for those in costume. Mature audiences only.

So many choices for only one night, hopefully horror movie fans in Minnesota won't be torn in two trying to decide which event to go to.

You get it? "torn in two" ........ "horror movies" .......... a .....well that was supposed to be a joke.

Never mind.

Don't start packing for Hollywood just yet, the debut of "Slasher" will take place at the Mounds Theatre in St.Paul, Minnesota, not in Tinseltown.

A seedy, small town strip joint takes a down and dirty donkey punch after one of the girls get's brutally murdered. Fearing that the killer may be targeting the local talent, the authorities shut the place down while they investigate the crime. Sad and scared, the other girls decide to spend the weekend together to reflect on the loss of their friend and to keep each other safe. Sex, drugs and rock and roll ensue before everything comes to a scream filled halt when a madman starts picking them off in a brutal display of blood drenched depravity!

Strip Club Slasher features some of today's hottest up and coming Indie horror scream queens like Scarlet Salem, Elske McCain, Rachel Grubb, Lindy Starr with first timer's Saint DeVille and Corrine Manning alongside sick and twisted horror actor/writter/author Joe Knetter and veteran B-movie horror actor Joel D. Wynkoop from such classic movies as Twisted Illusions, Truth or Dare, Killing Spree, Wicked Games, Creep, Dirty Cop No Donut and many many others.

Frame by frame Strip Club Slasher is loaded with gratuitous blood, boobs, babes, sex, drugs and rocknroll... No holds bared, this movie aims to deliver what slasher fans want to see!!!

I think ya had people at "boobs, babes and sex".

MONSTERVERSE is a new independent comic book company with a horror anthology book coming out in October 2010 and entitled, BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE.

Here is a direct link preview of the book and its pages posted on YouTube.

LUGOSI HORROR COMIC YOUTUBE PREVIEW

The comic will be available at comic shops everywhere and online and is distributed by Diamond. For a new independent transmedia company MONSTERVERSE enjoys having the top talents in the world such as John Cassaday, Bruce Timm and the legendary Basil Gogos creating covers for its books. Writer/director (of the upcoming THE WALKING DEAD), Frank Darabont, gave this quote about cover artist Basil Gogos.

"Basil Gogo doesn't paint pictures of monsters, and never has. What he does is conjure their essences on canvas like a magician. More than that, he conjures our love of these subjects in a manner that defies description or analysis. How does an artist infuse an entire fan community's love of a whole genre into his brushstrokes? I'll never be able to explain it, but I know I'll always be grateful for it. Seeing Gogos' portraits is revisiting the best friends of my childhood." - Frank Darabont

Monsterverse was chosen the FEATURED COVER STORY on COMIC SHOP NEWS 1207 a few weeks back (distributed to over 500 of the top comic book shops nationwide and given out to customers with purchases). This article beat out the top comic companies in America, an impressive feat for a new independent publisher.

BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE was recently featured on the front page of Diamond's AUGUST PREVIEWS website (under their new Pre-Orders section). And once again beating out the top comic companies and independents in Diamond's distribution universe.

The book was cited by the Diamond staff as both a FEATURED ITEM and CERTIFIED COOL in the August magazine (Page 298).

Diamond started a new PRE-ORDER section on its website and we were the first book it featured. (The very first!)

For a small new independent publisher up against the major companies and other larger independents this special advanced scrutiny speaks for itself in how the staffs of COMIC SHOP NEWS and DIAMOND view the book's contents and its contributors along with MONSTERVERSE's plans for future books and projects.

Take a look at our official website. We are quite proud of the amazing talents involved.

MONSTERVERSE and BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE will receive special coverage in the upcoming double-sized Halloween issue of RUE MORGUE.

There is a feature story on MONSTERVERSE and BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE also being prepped for their special Halloween issue of FAMOUS MONSTERS MAGAZINE.

MONSTERVERSE publisher Kerry Gammill is creating a terrific new feature cover for the January FAMOUS MONSTERS.

BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE is published by Kerry Gammill who is internationally known for his artist work at Marvel and DC Comics on titles like MARVEL TEAM-UP, INDIANA JONES, POWERMAN/IRON FIST and SUPERMAN. Kerry has also worked as a make-up effects designer on studio genre films such as VIRUS and TV programs such as STARGATE and THE OUTER LIMITS. Here is a link to Kerry's professional art website:

This FANBOY PLANET article can give you a quick update on what is going on with the history of the company and its future plans:

This link takes you to our first issue cover by the legendary FAMOUS MONSTERS cover artist, Basil Gogos.

Our variant cover is by one of the hottest artists working in American comic books today, John Cassaday, and who recently directed an episode of Joss Whedon's DOLLHOUSE television series. Whedon has been tapped to direct Marvel Studios' epic feature film, THE AVENGERS.

http://twitpic.com/25v1o3

The back cover is by Warner Brothers animation executive producer and Emmy-winning designer/artist Bruce Timm.

To reserve a copy of the Lugosi comic book at a comic shop you need to supply them with the Diamond Item # Code, AUG101080, with the title, BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE. The first issues of the Lugosi comic book will be shipped in October to celebrate both Halloween and Lugosi's 128th birthday. A special celebration of Lugosi films, the new comic book and its contributors is set for the American Cinematheque in Hollywood at its Egyptian Theater on Thursday, October 28th.

BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE will be a double-sized 48-page color quarterly and retailing for $4.99 and with no ads (except for a house ad announcing a serial adaptation of the novel DRACULA and starring BELA LUGOSI by Kerry Gammill and beginning in issue two). It is pure comic book fun and frights from front to back with a brief article on Lugosi.

BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE will feature some of the most talented storytellers working today in comic books and horror films. No other comic book series has this kind of industry talent nor do other comic book companies have these kinds of horror film heavyweights working on any comic book. This is a first in comic book publishing and dedicated to the fun and classic horror of Bela Lugosi but made for today's audiences.

Movie directors like John Landis (An American Werewolf In London, Burke And Hare) and Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling) along with make-up genius Rick Baker (American Werewolf In London, Michael Jackson's THRILLER, Men In Black), will be providing stories and art for future issues. More Hollywood horror film creators are also working up stories.

The most acclaimed creators in comics will be writing and drawing stories such as Steve Niles (30 Days Of Night), artist John Cassaday (Planetary, Astonishing X-Men) and Mike Mignola (Hellboy).

The first issue contains stories and art by such notables as Kerry Gammill (SUPERMAN and SPIDER-MAN ), James Farr (whose XOMBIE online animated and comic book series is being brought to theater screens by Dreamworks in a live-action production by top writer/producers Orchi and Kurtzman), Chris Moreno (WORLD WAR HULK), John Cassaday, Rob Brown (voted online as horror artist of the year for BANE OF THE WEREWOLF), Derek McCaw, Rafael Navarro (creator of the Xeric Award winning series SONAMBULO), Martin Powell and Eisner Award- winning artist Terry Beatty (THE BATMAN STRIKES), Brian Denham (IRON MAN, ANGEL), Bruce Timm and more. The book also features an article by leading Lugosi researcher and author Gary D. Rhodes.

MONSTERVERSE ENTERTAINMENT is a transmedia company headed by its publisher and editor, the comic book and film design artist, Kerry Gammill.

Keith Wilson, formerly of DC Comics, is an editor and writer/artist.

Producer/screenwriter Sam F. Park is the west coast editor and a writer/artist.

Bigfoot Movie News - Nightbeasts Premiere Info - The Bloody Rage Comes To DVD

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Brent Thomas / James Baack / Avery Guerra

Well, the Bigfoot movie craze that exploded throughout 2009 and the early part of 2010 seems to be coming to a halt, or at least taking a breather for a bit.

It seems like all that I have been writing about lately is stories about monsters from the sea, but fear not, I do have a couple of noteworthy items from the world of Sasquatch cinema to pass along to you.

I don't know if you remember back to a October of last year when I wrote an article about a very promising Bigfoot related film project called "Nightbeasts", which was written, produced and directed by film maker Wes Sullivan.

The film was to be Sullivan's first foray into 'live-action' cinema after a very successful career as a animator on such classics as "Aladdin", "A Goofy Movie", "Pocahontas" and "Hercules" for Disney.

At the time I didn't really do much of a write-up on the film, mostly because I was literally overwhelmed with harry hominid movie stories at the time, though I though the trailer that was out for the film at the time was quite good, and I thought that the story was rather interesting.

Well, almost a year has gone by since that time, and I had pretty much forgotten about "Nightbeasts" until I received an email about it's premiere earlier this week.

Also attached to the email was a link to a brand-new trailer for "Nightbeasts", which has rekindled my interest in seeing this one.

Here is the skinney:

"Nightbeasts" stars Zach Galligan (Gremlins 1&2), Audra Wise (Nip/Tuck, Miss Cast Away) and young Chad Trager, as common everyday people who, along with a group of Native Americans, are menaced by a clan of angry Sasquatch.

I know that's not much of a synopsis, but there is no official info out there about the film, so I had to go with a 'Readers Digest" condensed summery of what is seen in both trailers.

"Nightbeasts" is set to premiere at the Arpa International Film Festival at the historic Hollywood Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood California on September 24th 2010.

At this time the website for the Egyptian doesn't reflect that festival, yet, but when it does you can find out more info - HERE

I am happy to report that James Baack's film, "The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot", is now available on DVD through Amazon.com!

As I first reported back in July, Baack was able to secure a distribution deal for his film through Cheezy Flicks Entertainment, the same company that owns the rights the Charles Pierce classic, "The Legend of Boggy Creek." Well, now that deal has bore fruit and the film has been unleashed on the unsuspecting populous.

If you have been even a casual reader of MIN for the past year-and-a-half then you should know all about "Bloody Rage", due to the fact that Baack has been feeding me exclusives about the film since it was first announced in March of 2009.

If for some reason you are either new to the site, have short-term memory loss, or ya just missed it somehow, let me some up the film this way ......um ...... Bigfoot (obviously, right?) ..... um ....... hot sadistic witches, a nutso clown ..... really cheesy special effects, blood, guts, a Godzilla/Sasquatch hybrid .... oh, and it's all in 3D!

Okay, that makes the film sound crazy right? Well, there is much more here than meets the eye. The film really is a psychological thriller that incorporates all of the elements that I mentioned above, plus, and most importantly, it's a fun film to watch.

Check out the trailer:

The Ancient Dogoo Girl, Death Kappa And Chaw Invade New York

Written By: Ken Hulsey

If you have been paying any attention to the Asian cinema news posted here at Monster Island News for the past two years or so, you should be very familiar with many of the films in the line-up at this New York Asian Film Festival.

The event, that runs from June 25th to July 8th, will feature screenings of the Japanese giant monster flick, "Death Kappa", the Korean monster movie, "Chaw", the Japanese pop-culture mash up, "Alien vs Ninja", the Japanese super hero anime done 'live-action', "Yatterman", and the girl with the clay bikini, "The Ancient Dogoo Girl."

Those should sound a little familiar to you.

If not, here are some details:

Death Kappa

The storyline revolves around failed pop star Kanako, who returns to her hometown to live with her beloved grandmother. Yet no sooner does she return home than a pair of crazed couples out on a drinking binge run over and kill her grandma. With the old woman gone, Kanako takes to running the family shrine, but to make matters worse, the drunken killers managed to disturb that structure—which is the keeper of kappa, one of Japan’s many yokai creatures, in this case a benevolent, human-like turtle. Resurrected, the kappa is welcomed into town by the villagers.

Meanwhile, unknown to anyone in town, Yuriko, the granddaughter of a long-dead mad scientist, has chosen to continue her ancestor’s twisted experiments. Funded by Japanese nationalists seeking to bring the country back to military prominence, Yuriko works to complete his quest to develop a half-human/half-fish super-soldier. All hell breaks loose when Yuriko’s plans are thwarted, and she detonates an atomic weapon that causes both the kappa and one of the gill men to grow to monster-sized proportions. It is at this point that the showdown begins between the enlarged gill man, known now as Hangyoras, and Death Kappa.

Chaw

Shock and fear wash over the quiet, peaceful town of Sameri when ecologist (Soo Ryeon) discovers the body parts of a girl in the mountains. Officer Kim Kang Su (Uhm Tae Woong), newly transferred from Seoul, gets assigned to the case, but it soon transpires this is no ordinary homicide. Cheon Il Man (Jang Hang Seon), the victim’s grandfather, is convinced that the culprit is a giant man-eating boar, and more will be claimed if the beast isn’t taken down. Kim’s own mother has gone missing, and may have already fallen victim. All interested in capturing the boar for reasons of their own, Kim, Cheon, Soo Ryeon, opportunistic hunter Baek (Yoon Je Moon), and detective Shin (Park Hyuk Kwon) head into the dangerous wilds, but will they make it back out alive?

Alien vs Ninja

Once upon a time in Japan, there was a band of great Ninja warriors led by Yamata called Iga Ninja. One day they witness a flash in the sky and a roaring giant ball of fire crashes into the distant forest. The warriors rush into the deep woods in an attempt to identify the mysterious fireball. There, instead of finding predictable enemies, they are stunned to face never-seen-before creatures with claws and fangs, the aliens!

The hungry brutal aliens start to savage and feast on the Ninja warriors, leaving only a few to survive. Yamata and his warriors swear to avenge their comrades' deaths and risk their lives to challenge the aliens. However, none of the Ninja weapons, neither their swords nor their throwing stars, has any affect on the alien warriors. Now the Japanese greatest Iga Ninja face the biggest challenge ever!

Yatterman

Yatterman is a 2009 film directed by Takashi Miike and based on the classic 1970s television show of the of the same name.

While The villains trio voice actors Noriko Ohara and Kazuya Tatekabe are participant as live guests, this might be the first installment from Time Bokan Series and The Remake Version of Yatterman to not feature Villain voice actor Jōji Yanami.

The film premiered in Japan on March 7, 2009.

The Ancient Dogoo Girl

By chance, the withdrawn, and socially awkward teenage son of a bumbling archaeologist, named Makoto Sugihara finds a strange breastplate buried in the woods. When he places his palm on the breast plate, its design gets burned into his palm and awakens a girl named Dogu-chan, a hyperactive ykai hunter from the Jomon period. Because he had touched her breastplate, Makoto is now bound to Dogu-chan as she adapts to modern day life, forcing Makoto to go with her as she fights ykai in magic armor along with her animated Dogoo statuette companion Dokigoro while slowly prying Makoto out of his shell, whether he likes it or not.
