The Duck Knight Returns

Coming from BOOM! Studios this June is a brand new 4-issue miniseries featuring Disney's Darkwing Duck.

According to the series' writer, Ian Brill, the new storyline features the classic show's characters leading new lives where Darkwing's alter-ego, Drake Mallard, has hung up his cape for a desk job while Gosalyn is being suffocated in a new school and Launchpad McQuack is no longer speaking to Drake.
Times have changed for the city of St. Canard including Darkwing's rogues gallery. "There have been big changes and everyone's dealing with them in their own way."

Son of the Return of the Revenge of the 3D Man

Keeping up with the recent 3D fad, I've decided to share a Darkwing Duck story that was originally printed in a special 3D issue of Disney Adventures magazine from 1992.
Darkwing battles 3-D Man, a villain who is out for revenge. (sorry, you gotta find your own red/blue glasses)

Electric Tiki Does Disney

Electric Tiki Design has recently made a licensing deal with Disney to bring 12-15 concepts to life with their various maquette designs.

"The Disney Projects" will begin sometime in 2009 with Darkwing Duck appearing first as a "Teeny Weeny" mini-maquette.Can't wait to see what they have in store for their Roger & Jessica Rabbit "Shorts Tribute" series!

Disney by Marvel

Around 1994 or so, Marvel Comics teamed up with the Walt Disney company to publish such titles as Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast, the Little Mermaid and the Disney Afternoon.I'm assuming because the Disney Comic line of the early 90's had gone out of business but still had stories to publish?I recently came across a collection of Disney/Marvel books in a back-issue bin at a local comic shop.It seems that The Disney Afternoon comic title was an excuse to give Darkwing Duck his own series, but that's all right with me.The title featured other Disney shows such as Bonkers, Goof Troop, TaleSpin and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. The title only ran for 10 issues from 94 - 95 then was promptly replaced with a new title, Disney Comic Hits. I believe that the other titles were not selling as well as they hoped for because all of the characters were combined into this single series.Disney Comic Hits even had more Disney characters in their own stories such as Pocahontas and Timon & Pumbaa plus others...I may have to pick up some of those. lol

Christmas Cartoons 8

Next on the list is an episode from the Disney Afternoon lineup, "It's a Wonderful Leaf" is the only Christmas themed story from Darkwing Duck.
The evil docter-turned-mutant-duck-plant, Dr. Bushroot has had enough with the holidays and plans to ruin St. Canard's Christmas by controlling everyone's Christmas tree.
Meanwhile, Drake Mallard (AKA Darkwing Duck) is trying to teach his adopted daughter, Gosylan the spirit of Christmas has more to do with than presents.
After foiling Bushroot's pine tree army, Darkwing returns everyone's stolen presents but his neighbour's the Muddlefoots' presents are left missing.
Gosylan gives her friends her own presents and her dad couldn't be more proud. You can find this episode available on the Darkwing Duck: Volume 2 DVD set from Disney DVD!

Disney Goes Wacky

I always like to say that Darkwing Duck was Disney's first step into "Warner Bros-esque" wackiness.
See for yourself with a couple of cartoony gags...

Darkwing Duck Volume 2 DVD

Disney DVD released a brand new television DVD collection back on August 7th, Darkwing Duck: Volume 2!
This 3 disc set includes the next 27 episodes from the wacky 90's series.
Lots of great episodes in this set!
My only beef with these collections is the fact they are releasing episodes in their production order, not their "chronological-TV-airdates"!
New viewers to the series might be confused seeing the origin episodes of QuackerJack and Liquidator when they already appeared in the first volume. Anyways.....

Some of my favorite Darkwing adventures are included in this set. Episodes such as:
"Up, Up and Awry" - Megavolt is causing problems in St. Canard and is captured by Duckburg's GizmoDuck which leaves Darkwing longing for his own superpowers resulting in his very own gizmo-suit!
"Life, The Negaverse and Everything" - Darkwing Duck travels to Nega Duck's reality where everything is the opposite of what DW knows.
"Dry Hard" - The origin of Liquidator, from water spokesman to supervillian.
"Planet of the Capes" - Comet Guy needs Darkwing's help on his home planet because of a missing Ordinary Guy.
"Darkwing Doubloon" - A different story from out of nowhere that puts the Darkwing cast 300 years into the past to battle on the open sea as pirates.
"Twitching Channels" - Thanks to chance and Megavolt's newest invention, both villian and hero wind up in the human world where Darkwing Duck is a popular cartoon series.
"Twin Beaks" - A trippy, clever homage to the mini-series "Twin Peaks".
"Dead Duck" - After an unfortunate accident, Darkwing is left to his own devices while being hunted by the Grim Reaper.
"Time and Punishment" - Gosalyn takes a trip into the future and meets Darkwing's alter-ego, "Darkwarrior Duck".
"The Darkwing Squad" - S.H.U.S.H. has Darkwing train some of their agents to battle against F.O.W.L. and Steelbeak.
Here are some screenshots from the series for your viewing pleasure!
