The Pebbles and Bamm Bamm Show was recently released to DVD from Warner Home Video featuring both characters as teenagers getting into all sorts of trouble while attending Bedrock High. The show was a spin-off series that was produced after the final run of the original Flintstones. While the show is about Pebbles & Bamm Bamm and their friends, the parents of both teenagers are still present helping their offspring any way they can.
Now comes a rare piece of H-B history...
Around the same time Pebbles and Bamm Bamm was being produced, someone at the Hanna Barbera studio wondered why wouldn't a similar show work for another animated primetime family? The Jetsons!Yes, your eyes do not deceive you.
That is a conceptual drawing featuring a "teenage" Elroy, a "young adult" Judy and a "daddy(?)" Astro. As the rumor goes, a new show revolving around older versions of George and Jane's children was going to be called "Outerspace Race" or something like that...According to the model drawings, it looks as though Judy was going to be a reporter of some kind with Elroy and Astro in tow. Also little "Astro-Scrappy"?If you're wondering where I learned about such obscure Hanna Barbera history, check out the "Hanna Barberian" blog.
http://hannabarberafanatics.blogspot.com/
The blog is the place for any Hanna Barbera fanatic which wants to learn more about the classic television animation cartoon studio that has been the birthplace of Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Scooby-Doo, Hong Kong Phooey, and many, many, many more cartoon shows!
Check it out and be amazed!
Brandt & Cervone on T&J Tales
I picked up Tom & Jerry Tales: Vol 4 on DVD recently and was pleasantly surprised that Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone directed an entire episode that consists of 3 cartoons."Don't Bring Your Pet to School Day", "Cat Show Catastrophe" and "The Cat Whisperer" are very well directed. Since both Spike and Tony like to take a hands-on approach to their cartoon direction, they were both responsible for the storyboards, the character designs and the prop designs.I'm glad that these two cartoonists are involved with the new show since they were directors for 2 other recent Tom & Jerry projects, "The Karate Guard" and "A Nutcracker Tale".They have been primarly Warner Bros Animation directors going all the way back to 1996's Space Jam. They also developed the Duck Dodgers television series and directed the first Baby Looney Tunes' cartoon "Little Go Beep" featuring Baby Roadrunner and Baby Coyote. Too bad they had nothing to do with the television series....I hear that both directors have been working on more and more episodes of Tom & Jerry Tales and I hope those make it to DVD eventually, since that's the only way I see the show.Enjoy an Animator's Director Reel which I found on MySpace posted by Tony Cervone himself!

A Quick Lesson in Skiing
I wanted to share an assignment which I completed for school.
We were to use After Effects to create a motion graphic animation piece so I chose to go the animated-short route.
An unskilled skier tries to make it down the mountain alive to the tune of Camille Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals - Finale"...

Jetsons: The Movie in 10 Parts
The eco-friendly 1990 feature from Hanna-Barbera Productions and Universal Pictures has been posted on YouTube. This film is unique in a number of ways.
It is one of the earliest animated features to feature CG animation in it's 'primitive' form.
Since Daws Butler passed away in 1988, Patrick Zimmerman took on the role of Elroy Jetson.
Both George O'Hanlon (George Jetson) and Mel Blanc (Mr. Spacely) both passed away during production. Jeff Bergman was hired to finish recording both roles for the film. You can hear 'changes' in both character's roles as the film goes on...
Janet Waldo (Judy Jetson) had recorded her role but was replaced by her 'singing' voice, 80's popstar, Tiffany to draw in a younger crowd.
Personally, I couldn't get enough of this movie when it was in theatres but now I can only bare to watch the opening segments when the family is still on Earth.
I really like the various animation studios' styles that make up this movie, it really reminds me of watching the early cartoon shows of the 90's.
I hope Warner Bros or Universial will feel the need to release this to DVD soon, and in it's original aspect ratio...
