Christmas Cartoons 9
I've mentioned "Bah Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas" here before, so I'll mention it again!
I like this holiday-themed DVD feature which is yet another remake of Dicken's A Christmas Carol with Daffy Duck in the scrooge role! Read my review of this feature from last year!
http://jedaniels-adventures.blogspot.com/2006/11/looney-tunes-holiday-classic.html
I hope Warner Bros produces more Looney Tunes productions like this again. True, it's not perfect, but it was better than what has been done with Bugs Bunny and friends for a while now!
Check out this video which features a behind-the-scenes look at the film's musical score:

Goofy's Back in Theatres
Walt Disney Animation has returned to theatrical shorts at last!
I was fortunate to view the new Goofy short "How to Hook up Your Home Theatre" today before "National Treasure: Book of Secrets".
The short was very amusing, capturing the look and feel of the classic Goofy cartoons from the 50's.
In the tradition of the "How to" series, Goofy is determined to see the big game on a brand new home theatre system and this cartoon walks him through the steps of buying and setting up.
Here is an article talking with the people who are responsible for the new short and it even features a brief clip if you click on the first picture!

I hope Disney continues their short subject campaign and audiences can enjoy new animated fun before features once again!

Christmas Cartoons 6
The 1966 classic from MGM, directed by cartoon director Chuck Jones, is up next.
Based on the book of the same name by Dr. Suess, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a genuine Christmas classic.
Christmas comes to Who-ville again, but the Grinch who lives atop Mt. Krumpet is determined to stop it. He can't stand the Whos and the noises of the holidays.
He disguises himself as Santy Clause and sneaks into Who-ville on Christmas Eve. He breaks-and-enters into everywho's home and steals everything.
The Grinch is almost busted by young Mary Lou Who but he lies to the child and continues on his way. He has his dog Max, pull the sled full of the Who belongings to the tip top of Mt. Krumpet to dump it over the side. But before he does, he wants to hear the sobs and cries of the Whos for his own amusement.
He is surprised that even without material posessions, Christmas comes to the Whos afterall.
The Grinch is left puzzling and puzzling until his puzzler is sore until he discovers the true meaning of Christmas. He returns the Who belongings and ends up carving the roast beast for the Who celebration.A true Christmas classic! See on your local station or find the DVD from Warner Home Video!

Roger Rabbit Sequel Rumors
As reported by MTV Movies Blog that is.
Apparently Frank Marshall has told MTV News that he is still open to the idea of another Roger Rabbit film, after the idea was nixed in the mid-90s due to cost-prohibitive special effects.
With Disney Animation being overseen by John Lassater and going back to traditional animation, it may be possible for such a film to be made now....?
http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2007/12/11/roger-rabbit-sequel-still-in-the-offing-stay-tooned-says-producer/
Although I love the original, I would hate to see a terrible sequel that would ruin Roger Rabbit's career for a new generation. There has been talk about using CG props and characters, and I'm not sure that would be a great idea.
Here's an article that explains the "history" of the Roger Rabbit II plans as they were during the 90's:

Christmas Cartoons 5
Another personal favorite of mine is "A Pinky & the Brain Christmas"!
This was included during the daily run of the Pinky & the Brain television series during the mid-90's.
The Brain implements a plan during the holidays that depends on the distribution of "Noodle Noggin" by Santa Clause himself which will put everyone in the world under Brain's hypnotic spell on Christmas morning.
Meanwhile, Pinky decides to write a letter to Santa and personally deliver it so his holiday wishes can come true.
Both funny and touching, the Pinky & the Brain Christmas special is great holiday fun!You can find it on VHS and Pinky & the Brain: Vol 1 DVD set!

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Pink-Panther-Volume-6/8590
17 cartoons have been announced for this release, I suspect that another Inspector DVD is in the works for the rest of his cartoons?

Christmas Cartoons 4
Up next is "Mickey's Christmas Carol"!
This is a 1984 theatrical release that was shown along side a re-release of The Rescuers.
Walt Disney Animation reimagined the classic Dickens' tale, A Christmas Carol, with Mickey Mouse in the role of Bob Cratchit while Scrooge McDuck plays Ebenezer Scrooge. A smart casting choice on Disney's part.
Here is an article from the January 1984 issue of Starlog giving the "upcoming" theatrical cartoon an exclusive look for fans.

Speed Racer Trailer
The 1st Speed Racer trailer has hit the web!
The new cartoon-to-live-action film looks like a lot of fun and the Wachowski Brothers (the Matrix trilogy, V for Vendetta) are once again offering plenty of eye-candy visuals.
Warner Bros Pictures will be releasing this to theatres in May 2008!

Hanna Barbera's Peter Puck on DVD
I found a neat little gem on DVD while doing some Christmas shopping, Peter Puck: The Complete Original Series!
Distributed exclusively in Canada by Peace Arch Home Entertainment Inc.
Peter Puck debuted in 1974 on NBC's Hockey Game of the Week and CBC's Hockey Night in Canada. I remember watching these quick little shorts as they were played inbetween periods.
There are a total of 9 shorts with Peter explaining the game of the NHL in easy to understand, animated terms.
Great nostalgia to help reintroduce him to a new generation! Here's a little clip of Peter Puck I found on YouTube:
