We Need More of These

Back in 1998, Warner Bros. was celebrating 75 years of entertaining the world.
The Warner Bros. Studio Stores were still active and they were the main supporters of The 1998 Bugs Bunny Film Festival. There were 2 separate programs: "Fest of the Best" & "Taz Gone Looney". Each compilation featured fifteen classic cartoons plus the premier of "Another Froggy Evening".
I was able to catch the "Fest of the Best" when it appeared in Winnipeg but was unaware of the second program. It was great to witness these cartoons on the big screen and un-cut. I think it surprised some of the younger audience members and their parents.Warner Bros. (plus any other studio) should consider creating more classic cartoon film festivals like these to keep the classic characters alive and to show today's audience where modern animated shows and films evolved from.

Fun Run

Another Looney Tunes reference featured during a 2005 episode of "Corner Gas".
Lacey, the coffee shop owner, and Wanda, the cashier at Corner Gas, decide to start their own 'fun run'.

Fun Run
Uploaded by j-motion

Apparently Wanda is a faster runner than Lacey judging by this nice homage to a couple of certain Looney Tunes. Complete with mock Latin names!
Find this episode on the Season 3 DVD!

Bolt Hits DVD

Walt Disney Animation's latest feature finally hit DVD this past Tuesday so I thought I would share these images from Little Golden Book's version of Disney's Bolt. The artwork has a great retro feel thanks to Joe Moshier.Wal-Mart added a treat to the DVD release by attaching a special 52-page comic book to each package. The graphic novel was handled by Disney Publishing Worldwide.

Shoot the Duck

Here's a great reference of the classic Bugs & Daffy feud from the opening of a 2005 episode of the Canadian sitcom "Corner Gas".

It's nice to see the writers of this comedy series haven't forgotten about the classics. You can find this episode on the Season 3 DVD.

Jerry Beck, cartoon historian, has written another publication based on the classic Hanna-Barbera series.

The Flintstones: A Retro Guide to the Hanna-Barbera Classic will be released this October by Insight Editions.Jerry Beck has already worked on a series of Insight Mini Classics that were released last fall based on Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones and Scooby-Doo. (Great little books BTW...)
I wonder if this retro guide will feature repeat material from the previous book? Perhaps a more in-depth look?

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Tom-Jerry-Chuck-Jones-Collection/11478
The cartoons were produced with a full-screen aspect ratio with option of wide-screen for theatrical viewing. Here's an example of the full-screen version:I assume that this DVD release will feature a wide-screen look like this:

Mad Love and Other Stories

The 1994 one-shot graphic novel by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm will finally be released as a hard cover collection this May!

A LD's LT Story Sketch

Here's a conceptual drawing I came across online a few years ago when Larry Doyle was producing new theatrical Looney Tunes cartoons.I can't remember where I saw this, but I assume from Matthew Hunter's interview with Larry Doyle back in 2003, this would be a story sketch belonging to the unfinished "Deep Sea Bugs".

Dixieland Droopy: A Closer Look

Here's a collection of artwork from 1954's "Dixieland Droopy" directed by Tex Avery. The background artist is listed as Joe Montell.
This classic short is yet another example of the modern look that invaded animation during the 1950's.Add this animated classic to your collection by picking up a copy of "Tex Avery's Droopy: The Complete Theatrical Collection" DVD collection from Warner Home Video.

On The Rocks On YouTube

The rarely-seen animated film special "The Flintstones on The Rocks" is currently available for viewing on YouTube thanks to CN90s.
The special aired in 2001 on "Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater" and is based on the original 1960's series.
The character designs and production art pay respect to their roots as well as the script.
The basic storyline has Fred and Wilma's marriage falling apart so The Rubbles take them on vacation to try and fix things. A jewel thief gets his bag mixed up with Wilma's and Fred uses the diamond to win his wife back, but the thief has other plans.

Flintstone Spy Film Titles

Here are some examples of the great-looking opening titles of the 1966 feature, The Man Called Flintstone.
The graphic look and feel are really a spoof of the animated titles of other spy films being released during the 60's.You can add this great Flintstones adventure to your collection by picking up the DVD from Warner Home Video.
